well, as some may know my cars clear coat was startin to flake off, and practally the whole roof was white anyways i took it down to the 'gong to a mates, mates business partners son and got him to take a look at it, he reccons that the clear coat was rooted and it needed another one so he is going do the enitre roof and bonnet, by sandin back the clear coat and respraying it as well as sanding back the front bar to plastic and re sprayin it (stone chips), and givin the entire car a good buff anywhos he said that he would take care of me and do it for what it costs him

now i dunno much bout paint prices or anythin so im wonderin wat do u people reccon it would cost him, and wat he should charge me?

Buy him a box of beer and give him some cash for his efforts.
Unspoken rule of helping someone.

wish i knew somone who was a spray painter That's what I reckon too. Get in and have a go at the sanding part, it's the worst part. You'll learn something and he'll think you're a top bloke for helping out.

Off the top of my head - I'd say you're looking at $150 worth of paint all up at the very most. Don't get me wrong - $700 is a f*cking good price.

Bottom line is he's charging you for labour - but not at the rate he would charge an insurance company.

i got a friend who is a spraypainter and when he done my bodykit i offered him a hand and he said "no" only cause he said i did'nt know how to do it properly and it would just make more work for him ... sounds harsh but when i thought about it it sounds right ... i'd only have to sand to much off and he'd have to come along and fix it

$150 for front bar, and no more then $300 for roof, you got ripped.

You guys realise they have machine sanders these days dont you???

I was talking to a spraypainter friend of mine if the guy uses good qual clear then that costs about $100 a litre magna needs about 3-4 litres, then theres buffing compound thats dear aswell and the sand paper isnt cheap either for the good stuff

So i'd say that was a good price for a good job not some dodgy backyard hack

If its just to rub back on the clear coat and painted then thats a pretty normal price, you're not getting a good deal and you're not getting ripped off.
If he was serious about giving you a discount it would be less then $500. Rubbing back clear and spraying is easy, you dont need to rub back much at all, its just a case of rubbing it back with 600 wet and dry then maybe 800 then spray and he would only need 1.5L of clear max to do that.

Hmmm, im looking at getting a new front bar soon, and when i do my exhaust, im gonna have twin pipes, so ill need to make a new cutout, and considering my rear bumper is really scratched (not by me), ill get a new one, so ill consider it.

BTW, and pics of your new paint job? Before and after maybe? Did he spray the side guards bcoz of ur supermishap?
