Now im not looking to spend all that much money, not really worth it in my opinion, i just want the sound, but i dont want the big fat cannon-type on the back. I am only looking at changing the muffler and keeping the stock piping.

Do ya's think its worth it? and if so, can ya suggest products and places, preferably around the perth area :)

My car specs are below.

Thnx for the input ...

try a lukey or a zost (i think thats what it's called). the lukey looks sorta like a normal muffler usually see them on the 3rd gen magna not sure what the zost looks like
I have a full sports exhuast with a cannon on the back of my GLX and it sounds pretty good

Going on what you have said, I'd recommend a Lukey AL4-5711 rear section. This is based on the LR2779 can. It's a good muffler, won't get you any cop attention and is specifically built as a performance muffler for the magna and isn't some generic milo tin. I have it, many others here do too. Generally available from any Lukey retailer (such as carline) but I'd bet the local mechanic could get it in if you specified the product number. This is a bolt on muffler and connects directly to the existing piping around the rear axle. Not too bad on the wallet either. I can't put a direct price on it for you, as it varies from place to place. Expect to pay under $300 for muffler, tip and labour.

Furthermore, it dosen't look or sound like 3 feet of drainpipe. It is a quieter muffler, keep that in mind. You won't get that 'ZOMG! t3h Komm0dore b3 c0mINg!' sound. It's not that sort of muffler. You will however, love it under carparks  - sets off alarms

This was taken from the lukey product PDF:

If you do a search on the forums for 'LR2779' then you 'll get more than enough info. You may also be able to visit the sponsor section (Phillcom Rally) and see if Anthony does mufflers.

ok .. so i went and got the muffler replaced yesterday, and what can i say ... this must be love :)

it is exactly how i wanted it. Im not too sure of what model used, on the invoice it says the item number is LMU17609, ive never heard of it before, the description though has "Lukey 2.5" x 14" ACMS U/FLO OC"

Just wondering though, when i first drove around, the car seemed to be a little hotter, ran a little funny, like sluggish on some parts and had a funny smell, which my mate reckoned smelt like burnt oil. This natural ??

Anyway, this is what yas want isnt it ??

Before (http://www.loadedreality.org/steve/before.wav)

After (http://www.loadedreality.org/steve/after.wav)

these recordings where taken from my MP3 Player, about 1.5-2m behind the car, both on a cold engine. Pics are to come soon :)

Looking at that description, it's a generic Lukey Untraflow. And by 'generic' I don't mean that it's a bad thing. That burning smell is just the muffler settling in. Give it a few weeks and it will go away, and you may even find that the sound deepens slightly after settling in.

Other than that just check under you car every now and then for oil patches.
