View Full Version : Oil Leak from Rocker Cover: wth is that?
I just had a service recently and the mechanic suggested I have the oil leak fixed. He says there was an oil leak from rocker cover and me being the noob at car mechanics did not understand what he was talking about. I asked him for a quote and he said 65 for labour and 70 for the cover. I tot to myself "what the hell".
Sounds to me like a cheap repair with just a replacment of a cover, whatever cover that thing is. does it really cost so much? or is that a real rip-off?

In most cases the rocket cover itself doesn't need replacement, just the gaskets (Seals between the cover and the head).
The rocker cover is that top metal cover of the engine. The one that says 'Mitsubishi' on it (Those that still have the original engine)
Gaskets range froun $30 ~ $60, depending where you get them from. It can be done in under an hour. Basically the procedure is: unbolting the cover, then clean the cover, remove existing gasket and then put the new gasket in, pop it back on and retorque bolts.

Wow i wish I had a rocket cover, I simply have a rocker cover :bowrofl:
You got ripped unles your cover had a crack which does happen.
The gasket, after market is about 19 bucks, 30 mins tops to remove, clean and refit. 6 bucks for bolt stem seals and job done.
Reading these forums is making me think about re opening a workshop, people are paying so much for so little, would be able to retire in a year lol
