Hi all,
Alright, as most of you probably know by now, I am in the process of rebuilding Elante #1's engine after it's little failure. At the moment I am planning on doing some work on it's internals and later changing the exhaust, etc.

I want a modest amount of power, as to be honest, I have been happy with the performance of the car. If I want bragging rights then I have other cars for that.

I am wondering if anyone here has sucessfully put a mild cam into an EFI 1st gen. I have searched for it and there seems to be no information on whether or not it would work. I am not all that interested in changing ECU, etc but would change injectors if needs be.

Just as a side note, I am also shaving 1mm off the head, is this too much or should I go a bit more?
Cheers,
Nathan.

RPW sell upgrade cam's for the first gen and they reckon you can get some good power gains. ive bought a stage 2 cam (more mid range-upper mid range power/lumpy idle) and stronger valve springs from them but due to supplier problems im still waiting for it to be installed. i asked them about shaving the head to raise the compression and they said it isnt a good idea. they recommended rebuilding the engine with one of thier stroker kits.

Thanks for the reply. I was only thinking of getting a mild cam, but need to know if it will be OK with EFI.

Out of curiosity how much is their stroker kit?

I'm going to have to push the engine rebuild back a bit thanks to a vet's bill

We all went over this befor cams and efi ecu's the closest we got was a maybe, somone here was going to try a hot cam on a stock ecu but they had an aftermarket ems ready to go in also, still waiting to hear the results on that.

worth a look

yeah, it's been stated a few times that the only way to find out is with a guinea pig.
having had no-one done it with result here to show, kinda halts the answer.

so you can be the guinea pig if you'd like. be the first and then people shall follow :D
let us know how you go.
the worst that can happen is you have to sell the cam you bought coz it doesnt like it.
or if you want the cam and it doesnt work stock ecu, get a piggy back, or whatever.

So essentially it is the same as the removing counter balance shafts question :)

I just couldnt get a straight answer out of the other threads. Thanks guys.

If I do it I will let you know of the results :)

Astron Boy,
Nah, the thread referring to cams in an EFI Magna, basically the same as the counter-balance shafts.

notorious,
I will be interested to see how you go :)
