hey guys, doin a sub install on the cheap, got me a sub and an amp, now i need some help.
One of my mates has his sub and amp installed in his accord euro, without using rca cables, on his stock head unit. He has some time of gadget blah blah so he can take a powered signal from the speakers and send that to the amp, anyone know how this is possible or where i can get such a part???
cheers,

Any car audio store.. *mind blank as to the name*.. converts speaker signal to line signal.
I dont know the details, no audio expert, just remember I saw them at Strathfield.

line level output converter...
look like http://www.electronixwarehouse.com/car/accessories/line-converters.htm
Alternatively just upgrade headunit.. they are pretty cheap nowadays...
Otherwise look for an amp with remote gain control so u can turn ur sub up and down.
Eg new jaycar range
Good luck

The gains got nothing to do with it. Either go with a signal converter, or if you a willing to lose your rear speakers, get a amp with high-level inputs.. where the speaker wires from the headunit plug into the amp.. not as good SQ but... prolly the easiest.
For good, current advice for the best options, look at http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php
Hope this helps.

No i meant upgrade the h/u or alternatively get an amp with gain control... Not too important I guess you can always use the Fade to turn the volume up and down on the sub...
Either way you will not get good sq off a stock headunit... All about how much you want to spend.
Peace
Tim
