As some of you may have read in another thread, im doubting that ive got holes down the back of my TR for speakers, and i dont want to cut into the parcel shelf (been warned against it for safety reason i forget) so i've started thinking boxes. Boxes for 6x9`s are available at strathfield audio, and obviously id lose quality but how much? is it overly noticeable? overly being the keyword here, as I know how particular some of guys here are about your audio :P

It shouldn't be too bad. You WILL notice a difference. How much, I cannot tell you exactly but it should be alright if you don't care too much about SOME loss in quality.

some loss aint that bad, since theyre just to back up the stock speakers in the front...decided to leave those alone after i realised that if i take off my dash mat, quality greatly improved..so a couple of holes in the mat and now im happy with those, just the back ive gotta work on now :P

You wont lose any quality, u will lose a bit of low end extension, but you will gain some power handling.
They will still give a bit of punch, just not as much low midbass...

eeexcellent :P *does monty burns fingertip thingy*
midbass loss aint so much of a worry as there will be a sub thrown into the equation sooner or later..
do they block much rear vision? or even better, is it possible to mount them to the rear pillars? or even the roof?

if your going for looks it would look kinda gay with a box hanging from the roof

If you end up putting them on ur parcel shelf, make sure you bolt them down... Otherwise they could be a 100kmph missile... Ouch...

i know what u mean but for pure wank factor i was thinking getting speakers, mounting them on roof, close to rear window, pointing towards outside of car, so, when pumped up (and windows down), ppl can hear ur music alot better :P .......was only an idea, until i realised it was dumb and impractical......i am very suprised into why sidewinders car hasnt got 6x9 holes....

in the boot with a sub which has a lot of surface area and a lot of weight, Id say yes... But not in the cabin...
Shouldnt be too hard to bolt it down, just mount the boxes where you want em, screw through appropriately (or find a bolt that'll work) and then pop the speakers in...

hmm ok
but then again if my car has got holes for 6x9`s i neednt worry...anyone know if there would be holes even if it didnt originally have speakers there?

I'm not quite sure what the safety issue is with cutting holes in it? Can you find out again, I'd be interested to know.

ill ask my mate next time i see him, but i did notice this today as well in the modification basics section of the amc homepage
"If you are fitting speakers to your car be careful not to cut any metal body panels, as this can weaken the structure of the vehicle and be potentially hazardous in the event of an accident. This may sound very obvious, but our vehicle inspectors regularly check vehicles with the rear metal parcel shelf cut and even the rear firewall destroyed by a DIY enthusiast fitting speakers that were not suitable for the vehicle."

Sounds like an absolute load of ----. Just stick some 6" speakers in the rear, as you said you're going to get a subwoofer(s).

i agree.
I hate spaces and boxes. I have no choice but to use gay ass spaces for my 6x9's if i can come across some descent 6" ill use them instead.

They do go into a TR.. i've got them in mine with no cutting. Just need to turn them 90deg to how you'd normally do it.

I can assure you there are holes underneath the Rear parcel shelf in a TR.. It is not illegal to put holes in the parcel shelf but cutting metal out of the parcel shelf itself is.. If you are getting a sub then 6 inch speakers will do fine and provide enough Bass untill you get your sub..

Yeh from what i can gather there are already holes there in the metal, you'll just need to cut the hole out of the wood which isn't illegal. To be honest 6x9 boxes are huge and would look absolutely **** (if they actually fit, mine dont).
If i were you i would get special 6x9 pods for the parcel shelf, they're usually called raisers (but some people get this confused with the raiser that adds only about an inch). These will screw into your parcel shelf and will let your speakers sit there without having to cut any holes. They stick up abit, but much better than sticking big speaker boxes there.
