Hmm... you won't like the look when you need it and it's gone.

I dont like air bags, sometimes they do more harm than good, they look **** and if you have a minor fender bender they blast into your head giving you whip lash and cuts to your face and neck. Replacement fee aint to great either.

But if yoiu get caught without it, your in trouble.

Like MEH said.. Highly illegal, U`d be stupid to remove a life saving devise to fit a bit of bling bling.. As for the small fender bender thats wrong.. Airbags wont deploy unless there is a front or rear impact using speeds of more than 60kmh.. they wont fly out when u knock over ur mums mail box..

Why dont you pull out the ABS too. You can then put the markets callepers that light up when u brake.. :D

its illegal to do so and if you have an accident the Insurance company will wash their hands of your case and you will be find for tampering with a safety system of a motor vehicle indangering the llives of others.. DONT DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!

Besides I know some airbags are wired up to go Boom if removed..

I really think you should leave the air bag. I'd rather you had whiplash than smashing your face open.

It is completely illegal. The old wive's tales about fender-benders and airbags going off is cr*p.

The airbag will not deploy unless there is a 40km/h+ frontal impact. As for cuts and bruises, they generally only occur if you aren't wearing a seat belt (also illegal), and are far preferable to your face smacking HARD into the steering wheel and dash pad etc.

Of course you could also remove your seat belts too - they are pretty ugly and pointless afterall...

Incorrect, there is no pre-collision speed that must be reached in order for airbags to deploy. It is all based on rate of deceleration, which is dictated by a combination of initial speed, car body deformation, and stability/speed of other object/vehicle.

In almost all instances of facial injuries when the airbag has deployed, it's been due to the driver not being in a proper seated position (and hence collision with side glass/B pillar, dashboard), or their arms have been flung into their face.

If you remove the airbag and subsequently suffer severe facial or head injuries, chances are that the TAC also wouldn't pay up either.

I agree 100% with teK, "the old wifes tale" is this argument that airbags do more harm then good. Thats crap, the oly time airbags cause injury is as teK said, if the driver or passenger is not conforming to the manufacturers rules, ie not sitting in the seat correctly etc

And frankly, the only real injury that an airbag can cause to someone is a bit of whiplash and maybe a bit of bruising or something.. i dont know about you but i am willing to risk a bit of whiplash in a low speed accident then risk having my head ram straight into the centre of a sports steering in a highspeed accident, and if im lucky have the steering colum forced up into my upper body...

I really strongly recomend that you do not remove your airbag wheel.. a) for safety reasons and b) cos if the cops do a defect test on you and notice it, its a massive fine!! 4 digits i believe.. someone correct me if im wrong

yeah. i.e. driving with your arm across the wheel, sitting too close, glasses etc.

Yeah. Besides, sitting properly in a properly setup seat and headrest minimises the risk of injury from whiplash. Any idiot who drives their car with their seat leaning back at some insane angle is asking for trouble and injury.

As for swapping it because it achieves the desired look.

Murphy's Law mate.

What can go wrong, will go wrong... after making that statement, I'd do everything within my power to ensure I had an airbag, as you're just asking for trouble.

However, given that you feel the need to go for bling over simply practicality and common sense, why not remove your side mirrors too. Sure, you wouldn't be able to see much, and more than likely endanger yourself and others, but if it looks cool...

Why is it so expensive to get the airbag put back in ?

If they really gave a **** about peoples safetly, they should do it for cheaper.

I dont get how all you guys are bagging him for being "unsafe" yet all us 1st and 2nd gen drivers (except for the classy ones :P) dont even have airbags.
Though i wouldn't do it in your car mate, highly illegal and could cause you to be defected as well as insurance claims to be rejected.

You're right, and yep, I stand corrected. I did some checking too - and it is based on a deceleration sensor etc.

dude the expensive part is the fine, not putting it bak on. They are fair dinkum about safety and hence why the fine for removing one is so large!

First of all, no you didnt scare me off....secondly, airbags are not manditory if they were they would be made to go into every car on the road.....thirdly I did some checking my self and infact airbags are an optional extra when you buy a car, the government say the the primary saftey divice in a car is the seat belt...anyway it is out now and the new wheel is on and it does look BLING.....thanks for all your comments and try hard scare tactics but in the end it is my chiose and when I have taken some pics you will see why I wanted it done.

dude we arent emplying "try hard scare tactics" we are just trying to give you some advice. Take it or leave it, you obviusly chose to leave it

As for it being standard or optional on your car, well i thought airbags came standard on all third gen magnas, but anyway thats not the point, whether the airbag was an optional extra on your car or came standard is irrelivant, if it is fitted, then it cannot be legally removed and i guarantee that if a cop picks up on it you will get a big fine. Not trying to scare you, just making you aware of the realities

and yes the seatbelts are the primary safety device, but it is still in the australian design rules that if an airbag is fitted, it must not be removed

Just thought i'd stick in my 2 cents worth aswell its called an srs airbag secondary restraint system if the vehicle is complied with it then it must have and its not the fine you have to worry about its the impounding of the vehicle. that sort of defect is lock it and leave it material

And with his attitude that would be so funny

i hope to god you get pulled up and you do get fined new cars are designed to crush up like coke cans just a seat belt isnt enough thats why air bags are installed because without them the dummys were smashing there faces in to the wheel mmm now that would be a good look when you rap it around a power pole of if ya girlfriend drives it in a pole thats if you got one . then you might find if was a bad idea to take it out>

exactly.. everything is a good idea untill the worst happen. How would you feel if your girlfriend or mum or something was driving your car and they where killed, and you found out that an airbag could have saved them... I'd probably shoot myself or eat poison if that happened to me
