Hey all, only just purchased a new head (pioneer 8650) unit to replace crappy one in my car currently, The old one didnt play CD's and every now and again would just restart constantly.

Just finished fitting the NEW head unit and well here is where the weird s**t'o'meter runs high, the unit continuosly restarts (hmmm ive seen this before)...
1. hmmm did i wire it wrong, NOPE, all good...
2. hmmm great is the unit stuffed, NOPE, as he for some reason turns the parkers on, BINGO, head unit fires up no problems, turn the parkers off and bang right back to restarting constantly... Can do this over and over agian with the exact same result...

So, seems the old unit didn't have a problem with restarting, was somin to do with power...
Lights go on, stereo works perfectly, lights go off no stereo....
The only thing I can remotely think is that cause the head unit is more powerful and draws more power/current it is causing something to go nuts (other than me).... :flame:
But then turning the lights on doesnt seem to agree with my thinkin...

Any ideas ppls? pleeeeeease....! Other than driving round with my lights on lol

where did you run the earth to off the back of the headunit.

Did you patch it into the existing loom, if this is the case try running the earthseperatly to the chassis.

Sometimes car manufacturers make the earth a switching earth i had this same problem in my last car except it did damage ever since then any stereo installs i do i use a seperate earth. better for sound quality anyways

Sounds like you plugged the memory wire into the Illumination wire ????
try wiring the constant power supply up properly...

Always use a Seperate Earth never the stock one.. Aftermarket Head units drag more current so having the stock earth which is probably so far away from the head unit it will cause problems..

But check to see that you have not wired it up wrong and have used the illumination wire as either your ACC or Constant power...

wow, hahaha, i didn't really read all of it. but yeh, definately a wiring issue!!!!!

sounds like illumination got shoved onto ACC....

grab a multimeter, and check the power wires again.

hmm will give these a go tonight, constant power is good, will make a seperate earth, n check the illum wires...

The illumination sounds interesting, cause when it restarts the bulb in the ashtray goes bright then off..... hmmmm hope we have a winner here....

The old unit had been wired up so i was just going off they're wiring...

What colour is the standard illum wire (the factory colour), as this may help me...

I think it was Orange ??? I cannot remember ??

I have my Deck wired up to the illumination so when it turns on the deck goes dim at night with the headlights..

r u trying to play mp3 cd's?? I have a pioneer 5550, it plays normal cd's with no probs, but sometime when i chuck an mp3 cd in it tries to read the disc to determine the format then turns itself off. Then turns itself on again tries to read the format then turns itself off and just continues in this loop. I dunno if thats the same problem or not sorry for dribbling **** it if it is not ahha.

does anyone know why this would be happening to me??

You are trying an MP3 Disc in a Normal Cd Player ???
The Buffer that the Pioneer has is being Exceeded whilst trying to read your MP3 disc ??
Or Your Head unit is stuffed if it resets itself while tyring to read an mp3 Disc??
Or the Disc you have is incompatable with your Headunits Decoding software??

All i got left over is a little dark green cable and the acc is connected to a bigger blus cable...
