It's all average stuff - but bang for buck, i've got an old 10" sub sitting in my boot with a 200w RMS amp and it goes alright. You feel it / etc.
Just don't expect that amp to put out 1000w. It'll proberbly drive the Sony well (700w sub).

So you're not worried about front speakers?
If I were you, I'd split the system you want into stages, use the 500 you have now to do the 1st stage, say it's for eg: Splits and headunit.
I'd recommend searching around the low end Hertz range for splits, or the Jaycar response kevlars (yellow), or even the lower ones (blue) are apparently pretty good too. Splits will cost you about 200ish (kevlars are $199)
A nice headunit would set you back about 250 (I paid 350 for mine at the time but it was a bit higher than the middle range...now it's bloody superseded! lol)
Then I'd save and go onto stage 2, sub and amp.
Depending on how much you saved lets say you saved 500-600 for arguments sake.
I'd look at a low end coustic amp, a 4x100 will run everything nicely and with no underpowering (Read: clipping) problems. That will prolly set you back anywhere up to 400 bucks (the amp will be the most expensive part in a budget set up, mine was about 400)
Then as far as subs go, well I've not heard that many in the budget range, but going from what Mr_Bob said about my system on Mogwa "Nothing will touch it in that range", I'd recommend the Jaycar Venom subs.

mate try steer clear from sony woofers n speakers
u can get a decent 10" pioneer for around $160 in box
but stay away from sony...
price is far to high for what u get
oh sound gear... you can always expect to spend more money than you expected :D :D
Personally, i go for quality over quantity. Go pioneer or alpine for the head units. Alpine probably a bit pricy, but some of the features are amazing. However, try to stay away from pioneer speakers (personal preference).
And go a 12" over a 10" sub any day :D :D
If in SA, try complete audio on Goodwood road, they will suck u in a easy, and i got an awesome deal. Spent $2200 for gear worth just over $3000.
Let us know what you go with :D :D

I don't know about that Boss amp, but if you get a new hu, amp and sub it should be a nice upgrade :)
Make sure you get RMS readings for the amp, not the max power.
RMS like average watt outtage is it?
Any suggest a amp for around $200?
RMS = Root Mean Squared.... yes the average or continuous power rating.
Max (or PMPO) is the peak output and generally doesn't give a good indication of what you are getting.
Suggest reading the description here about amplifiers... it basically describes the differences between cheap nasty amplifiers versus quality amps.
