Well, ive gotten around to painting my interior, after buying most of the replacement parts i needed off ebay about 3 months ago.....lol. Well I was thinking about painting it white or silver, but it would of looked way too out of place when the rest of the interior is black and grey. My bro reaconed I should of gone for a gloss black (even tho the parts I painted were a matt black - unpainted plastic). Well i decided to go for the same maroon as the rest of the car (Chiante red). I didnt take b4 photos, as, well, most ppl know what a 2nd gen looks like on the inside, and if ya dont, well picture the red parts black :p Anyway, it has come as really nice, Ive just gotta do the centre consol. Id paint the existing parts, but as I drive the car to work every day, and park it in a public place every day, I dont want the mounting screws showing for the HU. Anyway, here are some pics

EDIT: Before someone points it out, Im aware my dash needs a dusting :P I was planning on doing it before taking the photos

I was considering white, but if wouldnt of worked with the black and grey of the existing dash. I did degreased the parts, 2 coats of primer, left for 2 days to dry, then 5 coats of maroon, 2 days to dry, then 2 coats of primer, with 5 days to dry. Between coats of a same colour, I was giving the parts about 20 - 30 mins between coats. I gave the parts a polish before fitting them, as they weren't as shiny as I had hoped they would be, but Im still happy with the results.

I wanted to, but those were the only parts I didnt have spare, and as I drive my car every day, and it gets parked in a public place for work, I didnt want to leave the mounting screws for my hu visible. Im gonna get those parts sometime soon, that or take them out to paint them and pinch my bro's car for work lol

I like the idea, dont like the colour :P.
Everyone has different tastes with colour though, personally i think red is too in your face, dont you find it distracting while you drive?

I dont know about you, but I keep my eyes on the road whilst driving :p And nah, it isnt distracting. If it were really sparkeling like the bodywork then it would be annoying when the sun hits it, but I havent really done that much driving with it in

good work mate;
personally i'm going to try buy a ks verada dash and paint the whole thing a duller darker black and then maybe the woodgrain or a metallic black for the strips, want to keep it nice and classy;
top work again

Looks okay, you've done a good job of it, it just doesn't atm match much else inside your car. Bright red and a dull grey aren't exactly the most perfect blend of colours, but if you put some more red in the car it would match well I think, but then you would probably need to wear sunglasses due to the brightness! Good effort though.

The only thing I would be concerned about is resale value, unless you want to paint it back to black or something when you sell it, because we all know it's hard to sell a car normally, and to run the risk of someone who is really interested in it being perhaps turning off by a red interior if they are a conservative person would be dissapointing for an otherwise nice car. That's something you'll probably sort out when need be anyway, so I'm sure it won't be an issue. Otherwise good effort.

Are the paints used tins or cans?. I'm crap at useing brushes. Also did you sand back the " to be painted " parts a little first ?.

To answer the questions, I painted the parts red, as its the same red as the outside as the car. Its actually a lot darker and less shiny than that, due to the flash. As for resale, I have a spare set of all the interior parts in my shed, so when the time comes to sell, put the old bits in and try to sell the painted bits separately. As for red not matching grey, Im planning on painting the dark grey black

Forgot to add, paint was all in tins, from my local Auto One. They stock mitsubish chiante red there in small 'lipstick' up to tins you would use for painting bodywork, even 'ingredients' for using your own spray gun
