Help!
What should oil pressure be on V6, 3litre TS/TR (12 valve).
I have recently fitted a good quality electrical gauge.
Starting the car first thing in the morning or if it stands for say 8 hours, pressures will start at 6 bar (600 Kpa=about 90 pounds per square inch). If left to idle it will hold 6 bar for 10 minutes and if driving it will hold 6 bar for 2 kilometres. The pressure then drops to 4 bar for about 12 kilo and then falls to 2 bar (driving and idling). If starting the car again that day say less than 8 hours standing, oil pressure will start at 4 bar.
I feel 6 bar is a little high and 2 bar is a little low.
Does anyone have a gauge in their car and can help or anyone who knows how pressure varies.
Apparently some Pajeros have same motor and have a gauge fitted.
Any other car with a fitted gauge should give an indication.
I have not had a gauge fitted before and don't know what is normal.

Vehicles with the oil cold will run higher pressure until the ol gets hot and thins out.

the oil pressure is also rpm sensistive as well generally running once hot a low oil pressure of around 25 - 40 psi and then as teh revs go up hit around 70 psi hot and then crack off and drop to around 50 - 60 psi as the oil pressure releif valve opens up so you dont' crack your oil filter.

Sounds quite normal. Now if it is below say 15 psi at idle hot then you hve some real problems or going over 100 psi.

Where did you tap the block for the sensor?

Like, if you put it nearer the oil pump you'll get higher readings etc.

With your huge variability in readings... I'm suspecting you've probably
tapped it at the wrong place.

Oil pressure gauge goes to where the oil pressure switch is, remove the oil pressure switch and fit the pressure gauge.

I think what mitsiman said is correct with the pressure changing due to tempreture, rpm etc
