My 98 Magna TF Exec came with a Sony head unit, front and rear speakers. The previous owner had a sub which he had in the boot. When he took it out he seems to have just cut the wires with scissors so my rear speakers are now disconnected. The speaker wires are just dangling at the back of my car. What I can't find are the wires that connect to the head unit. Where am I supposed to find them? Any help would be appreciated. I have seen this site but it doesn't really tell me where to find these wires exactly: http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48023

Are they stock wires?
If so they should already be behind ur headunit in the stock wiring ploom.

What I wanted to ask was where do these wires run through? Which part of the boot should I open/unscrew?

Im confused, where are the wires dangling? At the boot?
If so you already have the wires dont you?
Can you see them at the headunit end, behind the dash?
The wires run down the left hand side of the car with all ur other wires.

the only reason i can see for him cutting them at all is if they were wired to his amp. in which case there may be no speaker wires from the head unit to the rear, there still might be some stock wiring in there (i'm no expert on TF's).
wow, what wtf?
so there are wires hanging in the boot? speaker wires? and you want to know if they are connected to your headunit?
do you mean he was powering a sub using the rear outputs of the headunit, and when he removed the sub, he just cut the wires???

Ok here's an illustration:
SPEAKERS =======| <--dangling wires from the speaker. this wire is connected to the speaker but is not connected to the head unit
where do i connect this wire and where should it run through to get to the head unit???

i was guessing that he had the rears and sub running through the amp, and so when he took out the stuff he wanted(ie sub and amp) he disconnected the wires properly but coz he didnt care about the rears he just cut em from the amp. so im assuming the "dangling wires" are dangling from the speakers and he wants to know where to find the wires to the head unit. or i could be completely wrong on the whole lot

oooohhh, glad someone could understand it! :bowrofl:
err...i'm asian thats why :shifty: *looks at s_tim_ulate...bahah.
There should be wires under the parcel shelf, wrapped in some black plastic stuff. Might not have the white plugs on them left tho.
If you want too connect it to your headunit, you obviously use that wire, and if you can't find it, then you'll need to rewire it yourself.
Go out and a roll of speaker wire. 10m i think will be enough...15m will definately be enough...wire it directly to the back of the headunit, so it would be the green and purple wires off the headunit's wiring loom.
edit: oh yeah, he most likely had them connected up to an amp..

Ok here are some pictures. The first pic is the wire connected to the left speaker. Like I said it seem to have just been cut with scissors. The second pic is the closest thing I could find that resembles wires with black pastic around it but with a black not a white connector as was mentioned. The last pic has a similar wire but without a connector. Are these the wires connected to the head unit??? Thanks!!!

Thanks. You people just saved me heaps of $$$. One last question. I've recently purchased this car and in the process of selling my old one (Hyundai Excel). I would like to swap the head units. Both are relatively new Sony XPloads. I would like to swap them cuz the excel one can play mp3s. Do you reckon they use identical harnesses?

Ok I've tried connecting them but still no sound. I took a peek under the console without taking it out and there are 2 rounded cables plugged into the head unit. One red and another blue. It seems to me like it's a cable for an amp. I'm lost. Should I keep working on this or should I just head to the nearest auto electric?

well.....what?
take it apart and see! lol lol round plugs ayy, how thick?
u sure u connected up the rear cables right? :P just checking.
I'm guessin the original owner may hae just thought...'nah, wont wire up the rears off the headunit, since i have them running off an amp'

google is your friend use it
head units are fairly simple and shout have CLEARLY LABLED leads couming out of it i have a manual if you want i can scan the pages relevant to removing the center console so you can get a decent look at it
clearly the guy was dodgy as s**t to just cut and run the cables mostly run along the side of the car under the covers at the bottom of the door and out to the boot under the rear seat look for the cables there also

ok so you have connected the speakers to the wires in the boot. now since prev owner was running them off the amp he would not have connected these wires to the head deck at the other end so your speakers are still disconnected. you need to find where these wires come out at the front of the car and connect them to your deck. this may be easier said than done. imho you are better off buying some good speaker wire (as the stock stuff is probably pretty thin) and wiring them up yourself. it doesnt take that long anyway.
