Who ever is responsible for the cutting and all that crap of the tappet cover gaskets for our cars needs to be beaten severely!!!!! :headbange:

Ive bought 2 in the last fortnight, the one I had used to have leaked slightly at the water pump end, in that stupid humpy looking bit, the rubber isnt cut big enuff to adequately seal this area. Anyway so went and bought one, it was all bent up in the package, so I let it sit for awhile before fitting it, but nope it leaked like some one cut an arterial vein! :noway:

Got some goo to plug the flow, sort of worked it stemmed it any way, so yesterday I got another one, it was packaged better, but while fitting it I noticed that the rubber is no where near big enuff at the hump end again to create a decent seal, what a crock of ****, I pay good money for oils and the sh!t ends up on the garage floor!!! :disgusted

Just needed to vent my anger and disgust at the quality of parts being made for this car atm. If anyone knows where or who makes a decent gasket for the tappet covers that dont leak, please be kind enuff to share your secret with me!

Have a good day all!!

ive had trouble getting mine to seal at times
best bet is when u take the rocker cover off, make sure you clean both surfaces very thoroughly with metho or turps to get any crap off. then make sure u have some good gasket sealer (i made the mistake of using aviation gasket sealer  ) then give a good coating to both surfaces. pay extra attention to the lumpy bit and hopefully it will seal.
when u put the rocker cover back on dont overtighten it though, they have a tendancy crack  ive had to repair mine.

oh btw when the rocker cover is off, a good quick mod is to get some spray enamel paint from supercheap or repco and give it a spray. remember to clean it well before u spray though. i did mine in red and it looks pretty sweet :D
i recommend using the high temperature paint though 1500 deg F is the one i used.

rocker cover is a **** to seal, get some sensor safe gasket sealent, remove the half moon seal on the right hand of the motor and give it a good coat on the non flat side, along with where the top of the half moon seal sits flush witht he top of the head, water pump side where the "hump" is just a small dollop where the hump meets the top of the head rite in the corner, done that and mine seal every time, i usualy only tighten them 2 turns past finger tight

odd how ive never had a problem. when i sprayed my rocker cover. the gasket that was on there i reckon was factory, coz it was shattered. large goop blobs holding it together and smeared around the head.
got a new gasket, cleaned the cover, sprayed, cleaned around the head.
put it in, no probs at all.
even round the water pump pulley cam connection. hmm
i do hate the water pump seals tho, if u need to change the belt, u need to loosen tension, with 2 bolts, and those 2 bolts help hold the seal on, so ofcourse the stupid thing starts leaking.

Sounds like a PITA. It would be cool to buy a sheet of the gasket material and make our own.

I never have any problems, but that's because I always gasket goo the half moon, and the water pump extension

Well I redid the tappet gasket and went out and bought a new camshaft seal, as it was seeping slightly. No more leaks, took a while but we sealed it up good!!!!

Already painted my cover, its red too, just painted the pulley silver when I removed it yesterday to do camshaft seal.

Alls right in the world again!
