1.) Clutch & Clutch plates are NOT covered by warranty and deemed to be owner responsibility as outlined in the Service Book.

- My car has travelled only 37,0000km and the clutch is slipping and according to my local dealer is nearing replacement stage - ARGH!

2.) Warranty Services for Ralliart vehicles can only be performed at an authorised Ralliart dealer.

- So for anything that needs doing to my car under warranty I have no choice but to take it to an authorised Ralliart dealer of which there are only two in Perth, Skippers or Waneroo Mitubishi.

What a load of crap! well I have heard of the clutch clause for other manufacturer warranties but as for only Ralliart authorised dealerships doing warranty services... that is bloody typical... at the end of the day, what is really that different from a Ralliart to the next model down... not that much. You pay for more for just having the name I guess :disgusted

The reason for that is that the dealership pays to be a ralliart dealership, therefore they get the perks of getting certain benifits, such as your warranty stuff, you dont need to service the car at a ralliart dealer but warranty and parts that are ralliart specific will have to be done at a ralliart dealer

I've had a few small warranty fixes done on my Ralliart by my local non-Ralliart Mitsu dealer. Never had a problem, and they seem to be able to access and fit all the Ralliart parts the same as for any other Magna part.

Considering the clutch on a Ralliart is the same as a VRX, there really shouldn't be a problem.

Hey,
Any idea what the normal life of a Magna clutch is?

I can't believe after only 37,000kms mine needs replacing, I'll be persuing this with my local Ralliart dealer but just want to get an idea as to weather I have a leg to stand on or not as far as warranty goes...

It does seem pretty early. I've done 39,000km, and my clutch is going fine.

39000k's is way early for a clutch to die.. it was either faulty or you have been misstreating it, only you would know the answer to that. If you have been being nice to it then take the fight up to mitsubishi, write letters, get fangry, threaten to tell ACA and today tonight just for ****s and giggles.. dont let up till you get your way

Its a perishable item.. Of course its not going to be covered under warranty.

Mitsubishi cant control your foot, whether it rides the clutch, slips it in wheel spin or babies it.

Get ready to spend a good $800 :)

He bought the car 2nd hand RJL25. He might have babied it, but the previous owner may have thrashed the crap out of it.

Clutches have always been classed as a perishable item for any car manufacturer.

Yep I have seen a audi TT Quattro Have its clutch burned out due to misstreatment in only 2500 kilometers, the flywheel was almost bright purple from the heat (and it was being driven by a well known racing driver lol )

When assessing a clutch for failure you only really have a few areas to look at.

1 Any obvious pieces missing or broken off.
2 Checking bell housing and clutch plate/pressure plate retaining bolts for correct torque prior to dismantling
3 Checking clutch face wear pattern for even-ness and burn marks. You would look at burn mark patterns to see where there is slipping.
4 Check pressure plate fingers for even level, or if you want to go further you test the clamping pressure of the pressure plate in a suitable hydraulic press/gauge.
5 Check function of master/slave cylinders and presence of any airlocks.

4 and 5 are typically not checked by Dealers (especially the airlock part), unless you have had a history of concern reported to the Dealer about clutch feel.

2 is debatable about how often they check it.

In the end though, being a 2nd owner of the car raises questions about how the prior owner drove it, and unless there's CLEAR indication that the clutch has worn out due to a fault you aren't going to get squat. Shout all you want and threaten to go to ACA, Today Tonight etc etc, we've heard it all. You are better off fitting a heavy duty aftermarket clutch that suits hipo driving.

My car is just over the 100 thou K mark, and the car shudders a bit on take off. I took it up with service department and they said they would look at it, but if signs of thrashin were there, I would be slugged about 1200.

So I thought bugger it. Im not sure how the previous driver treated the car, and I sure as hell arnt paying 1200 for another pos magna oem clutch.

You're better off getting a cluch from Phillcom and getting it installed.
