I don't want to offend you but have you checked your oil levels lately, What oil type and oil grade do you use? when was it last changed?

I get it too in start and warm up... not every day, but my engine has done 230,000 (TF) so I expect there to be a few little issues.

oil might be a little thick and takes a bit to reach top of the motor as it all goes into the sump sitting there all night an oil system flush might do the trick worked on my car 300,000klms TF

I had this problem with my KJ, i thought, as most people have already said, my oil was too thick and so i changed it myself to something thinner (Penrite 5W-40). It made little or no difference, and as someone pointed out to me if you look in your manual under "driving" you will see a 'note' saying you may hear a ticking after startup which will go away after warming up but if it doesnt go away to contact you nearest dealer (or words to that effect). I recently reset my ECU(whilst doing something with fuses) and did the 'reprogram' (puting from neutral to drive 6 times and neutral to reverse 6 times) and since that (possibly coincidence) it has not been ticking at startup.

how did u reset ur ECU??? might do that 2. the car has a Castrol Semi synthetic oil. i called the guy from who i bought it from and he said that he got the whole car serviced before he got the roadworthy which was 3 months ago.

Quite easy to reset your ECU. Unhook your car battery for about 20minutes, then hook it back up. Simple as that, well on my lancer anyway

When i say reprogram i mean reset if you like. This happens when your gearbox/engine are adjusting to your driving patterns i.e all engine managment sensors in etc. I think your vehicle would have the INVECS tranny which adapts to your individual driving style i.e steady acceleration vs hard acceleration etc.

I mentioned in my original response about the neutral drive, neutral reverse process. This is the first time i have done that process after resetting my ECU (when you first start the car after ECU Reset) and it seems to have worked well as i said, though i believe this is suppose to help the 1 to 2nd gear changes. I would also go for a reasonable steady paced cruise after resetting to "teach" it all again but dont be allarmed if gear changes are a bit notchy for a while until it adjusts. You probably wont know if this has affected the ticking until the motor has been given a chance to be come stone cold again (which is when i found mine use to do it).

Resetting your ECU is a myth and won't accomplish anything. Don't bother with it
