Hey everyone well a few more questions i have. As i understand from what people have told is that invertors run straight off the battery and so do amps (cant they be 12v that would make it so much easier!) what i need to know is how hard s it to wire these up, is it worth geting a auto sparky to do it?

Get an auto electrician to do it.. like all things electrical, if you don't know how to do it, don't do it..

You should be able to do it yourself. First off think about exactly what you want.
How much current draw will you have?
Where will all your equipment be located? In the boot?
Then you buy the wire you need.
If you are running an inverter all you will need is 8 gauge maximum. But if you are running and inverter and an amp or several amps, you will probably need 4 gauge cable or larger.
Then it is a matter of buying a suitable fuseholder, running the cable through the firewall (find a grommet, poke a hole through), fuse the wire at the battery end, run it through to the boot then connect this up to your amps/inverters, then create a ground lead by bolting into the chassis. there you have ur negative and positive...
Peace

I realise this thread is old but if your still interested i work at dickies (dick smith) and we sell a inverter that plugs straight into the ciggy lighter so no hassles with wiring it up to the battery.
We have an 150w inverter for $86 and a 300w for $128 and they both plug into the ciggy. You can also wire them straight to the battery but that defeats the purpose of this thread.
