Hi Guys,
Given all the problems that people have been haveing with the autos recently I was wondering if anyone has put any thought into making mods to the trans to improve the kick down reponse and shift quality. Specifically I would be looking at increasing the fluid pressure in the trans to shorten the time in between changes, this would result in more of a "harsh" change. The other would be to get the trans to kick down more readily so that you don't have to have your foot flat to the floor to get it to kick down. I did this to my soarer when I had it and it really transformed the drivability of the car. How many people would be interested in doing something like this?
I think that the harder shifts should be relativly easy in so far as the trans is controlled by the ecu and the pressure is probably regulated by a solinoid that is controlled but the ecu. IT should be as simple as the addition of a resistor to get the ecu in increase the pressure slightly. The kisk down though might be harder.
If anyone has had any experience with the operation of the Mitsu trans I would love to hear about it so that I can for my cunning plan.
Cheers
Paul

I remeber my vn had a slider bar to adjust the kickdown but no luck on my te :x but if anyone does know I would love to find out how to do it, mine does'nt kickdown early enough and often I drive around slow corners in third or second, so I manually drive the auto shift through L to D quite often.
My auto trans guy said he could strengthen the box but it was gonna cost.

I find it annoying, when I am cruising 110 and wanna do a gunning overtaking, it kicks it down from 4. to 3. and then to 2. and then we scream for 2 sec and wonder what happened.
It would be nice to have an autobox where you could "lock" it on certain gear, bit like manual. Before you guys yell and scream, why don't I then buy a manual - you need to see Mrs Killer, and you'll understand that SHE is the one who drives auto only....
But other than that, I would like to see some "tightening" in the autobox; Magna takes off pretty sluggishly after all. But once you're on the move, the HPC headers are singing... 8)
Keep us posted ppl!
Kickdown takes too long anyway so I manually shift heaps.

Forgive me if i don't make sense,it's late :D Ca18 the mitsu box is a fair bit different than the soarer box in that each clutch pack is directly controlled by a solenoid. When a shift occurs there is a brief transition period where one solenoid is engaging and one releasing,if line pressure was increased this could cause a situation where one clutch pack is not fully "released" while the other is near engaged causing all sorts of problems. The ecu does monitor shift times to compensate for clutch pack wear but i don't think it could compensate for this. line pressure can be adjusted, there's an adjustment screw behind the oil pan, although i would'nt recommend it :D

Steve I think that there should be some scope to increase the line pressure, with the prouble shooting PDF that you gave me it states that if you have hard shifts then it is due to high line pressure so if I give it a small increase it might do the job. I was also looking at the downshift maps and it pretty much says that it will never drop back to first when you floor it even at low revs. We need to workout how to fix this because that is shit. Anyway I will keep looking.

I thrashed my car last night :(
Hate driving.....
As in i seoriusly shouldnt have done what i did last night....

if I'm goin say 70Kph and put it into 1st (auto) it won't change into 1st untill I 'm doin under 50Kph its good to race people like this coz you can give it a quick burst in 1st to get it goin!
