hey guys, i was just looking on nissan silvia a couple of days ago and one of the traders was advertising apexi turbo timers "for turbo and n/a" ??? i asked him what are the bennifits of a timer on a n/a car and he never got back to me, and then just today i was looking through the latest auto salon mag, and there was an rx-8 with an apexi turbo timer fitted, as far as i know rx-8's ar n/a and this one wasnt fitted with a turbo so yeh, whats the deal?

you dont need one for a N/A car...

plus - after what happened to my car - you dont want a turbo timer!!!

or if you do decide to install and use your hard earned money on one of these - spend some more money and install a battery kill switch :doubt:

but i dont recommend installing it on a "stock" n/a...

unless your n/a runs 10's - even then - t/t's are debatable - they're really only for "hi po" turbo applications. as these days the technology used in turbos could do away with t/t's all together.

its all wank factor.

True. The XR6T uses Thermo syphon technology to cool down the turbo after its application.

If the turbo is hot, it causes the oil to keep cycling until it cools down.

As Ben said, only time youd need it is if you are putting huge pounds through your turbo and its getting red hot!

You might want an electronic blow-off valve while you're at it.

Actually, see if he's offering one too :bowrofl:

Common redav - he asked a simple real question - which i answered with facts and bain commented on them too - its not nice for this new bloke to be beaten with the rice stick at this stage

Dont worry bloke - we are all good people here lol

Well I might add my bit here.

The turbo timer you are talking about is the same timer I have installed in my car.
I ran it N/A until now However I had it turned off most of the time as a N/A really doesn't need much cooling down.

Again as most have said you don't really need it for a N/A car. .I believe they aren't even a requirement in most turbo applications however they do allow the turbo to properly cool down & reduce oil coking.

Also the timer in question has an oxygen sensor readout as well as battery voltage etc so maybe they have used the timer for these reasons as well.

There is an application where a turbo timer type device is useful in a N/A car, its realy only for race car engines, and mostly if they run alloy blocks aswell, its due to the heat soak factor that alloy locks are known for, not only can they get hot realy quickly, just like a turbo you want to bring it back down to a normal operating temp before you turn the motor off otherwise you can get some bad thermal expansion etc going on, but it realy has little use in a road N/A car

far as i know turbo timers were for the early turbos that didnt have bearings in them they had bushes and since turbos spin at high speeds people were turning there engine off before the turbo was spinning at idle speed . so when they turned off there engine after a flogin the oil pressure wouldnt be there to lub the bushes ....seizzzzzz

question............ what bout for rotors that are NA? .......... i mean every rotor driver knows u let it run for 5 minutes b4 u drive and let it run 5 minutes b4 u turn off ......wouldnt this be a reaon for a TT on an NA car? ...... just curious playing devils advocate here

yep, every motor should be turned off at idle temp or close too especially after driving with the foot to the floor.
