You probably won't get any great Headunit w/DVD for under $400, should look into Panasonic, Pioneer or something though.

USB as in an actuall USB at the front of the deck to connect MP3 players and IPODS and the like  cause ive never seen such a thing although that would be awesome for under $400?
Or am i just crazy

Yeah, a number of headunits have incorporated the USB idea, some have even got SD cards too, so you can put music on your SD card and play it through the headunit..almost seems as if technology is exceeding itself a little bit? Heh, ahh well, i'll stick to my MP3 CDs! :-)

I wish Alpine would take on a newer look on their headunits, they all seem exactly the same when you look at their models.

saw at JB the other day one of the top Panasonic head units on sale for $396. RRP was about 800 or something stupid. I'd look up what features it has but cant be stuffed :P

That one would be in THIS THREAD (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14137&highlight=panasonic) I started ages ago. Yeah, pretty big price drop from the start of the year.

The build quality of the Panasonic CQ-5400 Headunit I have is great, no serious problems with it as of yet, sometimes the buttons can seem a little stiff, but it's never been a hassle, or caused any irritation for me.
I recommend the Pioneer DEH-P5750MP. :D

A few of our cruisers up here have that deck and they seem excellent for the moolah. Highly recommended.
Has anyone bought one of the DVD + 7" screen off ebay?

I got the panasonic, love it, have no idea what the internal amp is like though, but who buys head units with 3 * 5 volt preouts for their internal amps anyways.

If it came in black then i'll be happier, i was thinking of painting it black somehow cos generally the shape is very nice, it's just the shiny silver that makes it look a bit cheap, plus i have to polish it everytime i touch it to take it out, cos the thing collects oils from your fingers so easily.

If a deck had AUX Input via CD-RB10 or CD-RB20. What would that be.

I am pretty sure all pioneers on the market now support this...you can make up your own though for very cheap. I think the proper ones cost around $90 but you could do it for around $5. Theres a tutorial on car audio australia

Perhaps you should clean your hands every once and awhile, eh? :-) I know what you mean though, it does collect the oils from the hands and smudges it a little on the faceplate; however, I barely ever notice it anymore because it seems to me that it disappears magically. :|

Haven't found any decent-brand DVD HUs that play MP3 for under $400.
Have looked for a while, in the end bit the bullet last week and paid a bit more.

USB on HUs are usually to stick in a USB thumb drive.
None control your iPod thru the USB yet; it will probably never happen
for various technical & marketing reasons.
BMW, Mini, Pioneer, Kenwood etc have iPod interfaces that allow control of iPod
thru the HU, they are a direct linkup & do not use USB.
