hi, im looking for a workshop to install a set of cams, adj. cam gears and h/d valve springs, and then tune it with a greddy. :P
any thoughts on wether this is a good price anyone??? (it is a bit of a rough guess)

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the enquiry regarding the installation of the cams and the
tuning
of your car, we can certainly help you out. For tuning you are
probably
looking at about 4-5 hours on the dyno if we have to play with cam
timing
and you are looking at $150 per hour for the tuning. With the
installation
of the cams and gears and valve springs you are most probably looking
at
approximately 8-12 hours @ $77 per hour. Sorry I can give you a better
estimate but this isn't the most common car which people put cams,
gears and
valve springs in so we have never done one before. Let me know when
you are
looking to get the car booked in and we can go from there. Look
forward to
hearing back from you.

um no thats very expensive, you shouldnt need anything near that time on a dyno, a good dyno place should be able to do the job well in under 2 hours. Install should be about 8 hours though, 12 is pushing it alot.

Velocity?? VRX-II??

I enquired on Friday. (cant find a manual 3.5 wagon in Perth f/s)
From Sydney to Perth, I was quoted around the $1300 mark.

Dallas is 122/hour for the tuning - so its a little more expensive - however, not completely out of the question - as for 4-5hours - you get what you pay for. i would expect a min of 3.5 hours on a dyno for optmum results with a greddy, altho, my car had spent well over 30hours on a set of rollers. having said that my experience is with a full aftermarket not so much a piggy back - but im sure the rule of thumb still applies "you get what you pay for"

and you are looking at $150 per hour for the tuning. With the installation of the cams and gears and valve springs you are most probably looking at approximately 8-12 hours @ $77 per hour

I would of put asside around about 5-7hours to make sure its done properly. its a bit "ummm" the fact that they havnt played with a 6G engine before - but we have to take this into account as we are the not so common form of modifyers, so expect that. $77/hour is reasonable.

Let me know when you are looking to get the car booked in and we can go from there. Look forward to hearing back from you.

Id prolly ask for a tour of their workshop, and see what kind of cars they "are" toying with (ie, see if they have heads ripped of a GTR or something just to give you a feel that they arnt just a "service" department)

All in all - without looking at their website/workshop/face to face - its a decision that you should make - and well, i think that if these guys have some nice clients - then i think you'd be safe to say they know what they are doing. Just make sure you get a
A/F graph, HP/KW graph, and a ft/sq'f graph too - all the graphs you'll need :D

also be keen to find out what they will "warrant" as far as their tuning/workmanship is conserned, and how long/how many kms they will be responsible for.

oh - and there is no reason why you should send your car across the country as there would be more then capable (if not more superior) places in sydney to get the same work done, without the freight hassle :doubt:

you do get wat u pay for but the, with a mild mod like this the difference between 2 hours and 4 hours on a dyno would not achieve a significant difference, although there would be a difference it would just be minor. I would look elsewhere though because from that quote it will cost at least $1200 probably for the install

I'm with Booya.. 4 hours on the dyno is quite reasonable, especially if you're talking about stage 2 cams, which I imagine you are if you're fitting new valve springs.

Also the labor time isn't too bad.. obviously they have to take the heads off to fit the new springs properly and that's a time consuming task.
