Have you actually read what they say the shift kit is on their site? Sounds to me like it's just a fancy way of saying we're chucking a 10c resistor and wiring it up to a switch onto your ecu.
thats pretty much what a shift kit is lol..a couple of resisters hard wired to the ecu lol

Yes, a tranny cooler, torque converter, upgrading ur clutches and bands, etc etc. Tranny cooler would be good start though.

what the hell does a tranny cooler do (coolls the transmition but how is it effective etc)

Cool the transmission fuild the same way the a radiator cools the water in your engine. When your doing "Spirited Driving" it puts alot of pressure on the auto, causing the tempreture on the oil to rise, a cooler will help keep the tempreture in check.

so would you say it extends the life of the transmition rather than makes it perform better?

I's say it will SAVE your transmission rather than extend its life. Push the auto too far and you will burn it out!

Found something interesting on the auto in the 3rd Gens the other night. Had the instrument cluster out installing the EL gauges and needed to move the car. Didn't work!!!!! The electronics run through the cluster ie, if it aint there it don't work well at all!! Clunky and crazy!

Don't talk to me about fricken automatic transmissions - I have an AWD TJ2 with the 5 speed tiptronic - 50,000Klms, and the transmission fluid is BLACK (and smells like burnt something).
The AWD's really need better cooling... Least it is getting fixed under warantee (prays for new 5sp Tiptronic to be fitted). :doubt:
Check the colour of your transmission fluid guys...
Cheers

Yeah - my tranny fluid was ****ed when I brought the car 18 months old  - reckon the guys at the dealership didn't help matters. Anyway - got that flushed straight away, and she's been sweet for almost 18months now.
I do find tho that when I drive it hard in tippy for a prolonged period - I can smell the trans fluid 'cooking' afterwards. I've heard of ppl on here having it boil over. Not good..... a trans cooler will be on the cars for little ol' me once she's pushing out a few more KW's.
Anyone recommend a good brand or how to go about getting one fitted??

Probably shouldn't be too hard fitting one. I guess the hardest part is finding a location and the right dimensions on the tranny cooler. My is located right in from of the radiator on the bottom where the stock tranny cooler is located. crappy pics on cardomain. I do suggest u get a bigger one than the one I got. Guesstimating, I think mine is 19x3x1 (LxHxW). I would suggest getting a 19x6x1 or around there somewhere. U will have to make ur own brackets.
As far as where to get one I don't know. I live in the US. I got mine from jegs.com or summitracing.com. One of them.
