I removed the stock front speakers and tried putting in my JVC's but the magnet is way to big. I tried jamming the dash cover back on, but it aint happening.
Anyone know of some good 4" speakers that would fit without having to cut anything in the car ?
I have my car in the back and have taken all my seats out, rear panel and everything. I am rewiring my entire stereo, mounting my sub and amps in, and have bought an amp kit because it was **** before. Once its done, ill make a thread with pics.
If i didnt get this EQ, i wouldnt bother doing all this but i might as well do it right this time. No more extension cable for me :D
Oh yeah, i have a 1st gen

Check the mounting Depth of the front speakers, then go and find ones that will fit...

Try 4" 100 watt Kenwood front speakers, they fit on a TR so I would imagine they would fit a first gen as well.

Hey if they fit i dont mind because i have an EQ so it should sound good. Ill have a look for them speakers. If i cant find them ill just take the stock speaker and compare them with others.

a work mate of mine put 200w soundstorms i his dash and it sounded great. he had to cut a small bit out but it was worth it for sure...they ony cost him $50 from strathfield, there in our work ute and the boss's subaru.

If you want to do it right, 6" in the doors...
(before you arc up magnat its just a suggestion!)
Otherwise you will be stuck with 4" that produce no midbass...
Will you be happy with the 4" in the stock spots? or will you end up upgrading anyway? If the latter just spend right and do it right the first time.
Good luck

I thoroughly agree with you, but how can it be down stealthfully to reduce his chances of theft ??
my mate's pulsar has 2 pairs of 4" speakers. kenwood fronts and clarion rears, off a kenwood deck!!
His system is pimpin'!!!! :bowrofl: the bass is tremendous..not even my sub could overcome it.
no seriously, i nearly died in that car.

Paint covers black/match the trim?
anyway, most cars have front speakers... I dont think it would be a big problem.
I think Gemini is worried more about cutting the trim which from what I hear isnt a big problem
Peace

i've tried putting speakers in a 1st gen before. the dash speakers are hideous, and i don't even want to be bothered getting them out.
they can rot in their lonely little cavities for the rest of their lives!! i say...don't even bother with replacing them. save up and get some 6.5" splits....or ok, 6" splits, or 6"coaxs if you're really on a budget.
you will most likely need to build fibreglass door pods to fit speakers in...oh, and you can't cut a hole in the door trim and screw them in, lol.

if your set on keeping the 4" in the dash, i'd have a look at some Focal's, maybe a set of 4" splits with the tweeters flushed in somewhere? i have 5" focals and was actualy very surprised with the amount on bass they can punch out! they can be a bit pricey, but i'm sure theres some lower end models
also theres other brands that could be considered such as clarion, jaycar or even US Audio?
really just comes down to what fits and whats in the price range

I dont mind cutting the trim. Its just that there is no hole behind it and i dont want to cut a hole in the metal of the door. Also, i would rather have the speakers at ear level. I dont mind that i wont be getting midrange bass thats why i have the 6x9's and the sub :)
Ill see how it sounds. I think ill just use the jvc's and cut a hole so they can fit. If they sound ****ty, ill just remove them, put them in the door with a spacer and put the tweeters @ ear level. I cant wait to get it done because i want to hear it with this EQ
