In Preperation for my New 16 inch Mags Arriving on Wednesday I used what little time I had to Re-Do my Calipers..
Now since I will be applying another coat Next Wednesday I did a Really Quick Job which took a total time of 1hr and 15 Minutes...
so Here is How I did it...
1. Removed Wheels from the Car ( Follow standard Wheel removal Procedures)
2. Used News paper Double folded and inserted between the caliper and Disc to avoid Getting any paint on the actual Disk. Lay paper under Actual floor underneath the Wheel you are painting to avoid a paint stained Concrete driveway....
3. Taped paper into position from the Rear.. DO NOT TAPE ANYTHING TO THE DISC SURFACE !!!
4. Sprayed caliper using several small coats of High Temp engine Paint to ensure even coating and no runs. Allow to dry between coats.
5. ATTEMPTING THIS MOD IS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND SAFETY...
if you cannot perform this mod, then please seek advise or get a Fellow AMC member to help..
Tips.
Do not do this on a day where you have to be somewhere in a hurry, It takes a little time and the results will be good as long as you are carefull and patient...
Use a High Temp spray pack, it is easy to apply and will stand the heat of your Brakes heating up.. If you use normal paint it will flake and peal of within 2 weeks of doing so.. Spend the money and Usae High temp engine paint..
Keep Metho and a rag or Two handy to clean any over spray or Drips on the concrete..
Photo's of results attached...

magnat did u clean the calipers before u painted them?
i am a little concerned at the effort taken to protect ur car paint, by looks of it you didn't cover the car body just the disc
but as long as u didnt get any paint on the car thats all good
looks nice

There is also "caliper paint" that's high temp rated, which you can use as well as engine paint. I'd also recommend washing them in degrease first, but you'd probably want to take them off the car first, to avoid getting degreaser anywhere you shouldn't.

Sorry Thugdout.. I forgot to mention the cleaning part, I used Metho to clean the Caliper of Brake Dust, When you spray the Calipers you do so when it isnt windy and generally you spray downwards so no spray goes anywhere near the Body or Wheel Arch insides ..

Is it just me or does it look like you sprayed the pad as well??
I was looking at doing this to the AWD/Ralliart calipers, I think that they look nice in black (red is just a little to flashy for me) - Where do you get the two-pack epoxy paint that another member had a photo of?
Cheers

Most Stores like Autbarn and Supercheap carry the Brush on Packs..
Yes Heath, the back part of the pad gets painted.. No risk of fire or anything so no Harm..

Ok guys heres the best way to do this, its how i did mine and they are lasting better than my mates ones who didnt do the proper preparation and finishing.
1. preparation, get out the wire brush and scrub the hell out of the caliper without scratching the disk, scrub till the thing shines and then clean it with degreaser and wipe it dry if you do it properly the calipers will look all shinny and clean, might take an hour for all the caliers but well worth it in the long run.
2. put ya newspaper where you dont want paint and all that, dont be too worried bout getting a bit of paint on the disks, it wont affect the brakes in anyway ans will come off the first time you brake.
3. spray the calipers, put a coat on each caliper giving it a few mins to dry, then heat it with a heat gun for 5 mins on each caliper. Give each caliper about 10 coats heating it with a heat gun after each coat. Will make the color brighter and also make it last longer.
good luck all

cant you just take the calipers off? we did it on the AU and took em off and sat em on a little stool thingo we had laying around, why do you have to use the heat gun? What would you recomend if you dont have one?

you're all way off the mark with this one, take the bloody caliper off the vehicle!
sand blast the sucker or acid dip them.
yes a epoxy paint is the best.
re-kit the suckers with new rubber and refit to the vehicle.
flush and bleed with new fluid.
nothing less is a bodgy job.
IF ITS WORTH DOING, DO IT RIGHT PEOPLE!

Look if you want to mess around pulling off your Brakes then run the risk of them failing then go for it..
Brakes should be left on the Vehicle..
If you want to paint them, do it the easy way , it saves time, hassles and accidents.. No risk of the Brake Failing if you don't remove it..
The Results are the same. One just takes longer...
Besides this method is for the mechanically Challenged..

the newspaper would be fine to cover the disks? Do you guys reccomend removing this pads as a precaution?

Paint or Remove the Pads, the choice is yours.. One is quicker one is longer.
Double Fold the Newspaoper, making sure it covers the areas you do not wish to paint..Tape into place on the rear side of the brakes not the Disc.. You can either just paint the parts you can see or do the lot..
I painted my Brake pads, just the back, not the surface that contacts the disc. and there are no side effects.. The Paint I used is Flame resistant and there is next to no danger of it combusting under heat applications once dry..

im sorry but i have to dissagree.. its really not that hard to remove brake calipers! Running the risk of brake failure? Hardly if you know what your doing or know how to read the instructions in a service manual..
By painting them while still on the car you run the risk of getting overspray on the rotors and around the guards. Also it makes it more difficult to apply the paint evenly, and almost impossible to paint the entire calliper.. you can only really paint the front of the calliper by doing this. Also you really shouldnt paint it with your pads still on.. i know you where only painting the back of the pads, but it wouldnt be too difficult for the paint to find its way around to the actual pad face.. your also gonna get paint all over the brake lines etc.. just not a really good idea in general
As previously stated, if your going to do the job do it right!
magnat - dont take offence to this, it does look good, just saying my 2 cents worth

and so wot if it gets on these, may look ordinary but aint gunna effect anything

and getting paint on the front of the pads, i highly doubt it, but even if you did it wont affect the brakes at all it will simply come off the first time you apply the brakes ask any mechanic.

mate its called doing a job on the dodge.. dodgy work = dodgy results.
And i dont care what you say, getting paint on your rotors or pads is NEVER a good idea, ask any mechanic
