What is the down side of uising a round pod as opposed to using an oval pod (k\n)?

well some says round pod is with the twirling of air into the maf and makin the sensor confused. i say if u bolt on a round pod u should hav at least 8" long pipe in between pod and maf

hmmmmmmmmmmm dam

I want to make a pod box similar to the clear box in http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22628&page=1&pp=10
I intend on cutting a scoop into my botnet intead of the cai piping, so 8" of piping would realy screw the plans

k&n panel works the same as the pods u dont hav to do a pod clear box. but if u want a blingage in the engine bay its up to u. beside pods makes louder vrooom than a k&n panel

the CFM on the Pods is like triple that of a panel.

I posted this in the Mods thread but I'll ask again here. Was wondering whether the old style Ram Flo air filters similar to what was/is used on the XF weber would be a good option. They are fairly compact and the base can be cut out so suit the MAF. Plus they don't have the 'swirling' issue of the pod. On that note, after having a look at the MAF, the mesh looks like it would do a pretty good job of straightening the air regardless of how it entered. it is fairly fine and has a good surface area!

i think ram flow pods wouldnt filter as well as a new pod but i may be wrong.

i got the round ram pod, i dont see any problems with it, i used to have oval i found the round one is the same if not has better sound, altho what a waste of cash for 1-2 extra kw id rather u add anoth 100 for a sports muffler or sumfin like a better ICE.....

Ok I've got a round Simota pod on my CAI setup atm, and I occasionally get the car hesitating, mostly before its at running temperature, and usually around 2000rpm.

Would this be doing any damage to anything?

Probably impossible to know exactly how much 'swirling' air throws the MAF sensor out. Only way to know would be to hook the computer up to a diagnostic machine and a secondary airflow sensor somewhere in the line (one which doesn't get confused by 'swirling' air) and comparing the stock MAF sensor reading vs. the secondary air sensor reading. The computer is adjusting fuel delivery based on MAF sensor reading - which may or may not be inaccurate because of 'swirling' air.

Personally - I think the effects of running a round filter as opposed to an oval one would be almost impossible to notice from a drivers seat perspective. This doesn't mean of course that it isn't going to shorten the life of certain engine components. If it was me - I'd prefer to be safe rather than sorry.

i retract my post from above, simota pods in magnas are sh*t. stick with k and n.

I can't for the life of my see how oval or round can possibly make any difference at all. Consider this: The factory inlet pipe is round. The MAF is full of honeycombed material, which will kill off any 'swirling' that may be going on before that anyway. I see no evidence at all that swirling even occurs, let alone that it is detrimental.

I've also notice my fuel consumption is less. Trip comp was on 9.7 at one stage last week, till I did some hooners. :D
