Hey everyone. Just started modifying my 2000 TJ Magna. Have just got some 17" rims put on, and am about to get the vrx body kit installed. However i am wanting to install the vrx headlights, but am not sure of the part name (are they called vrx headlights?) if anybody could let me know what they are called, where i could get them and an approx price, it would be greatly appreciated.
Steve.

1-piece parabolics? As used in Verada? About $700?

Don't use verada parabolics, they do not have the parking bulb holder installed.

Are there a different model of parabolics for the Magnas, Heath?
i have verada parabolics, and they do have a pre-cut hole in there for parker bulbs, but they dont have any back supports to hold them in place. Nothing a little play-doh wont fix in place.. or tape...
edit* mind you i do have fitment issues on the right headlight.. where the back of the headlight doesnt fit in with all supporting brackets in the bonnet as good as you'd hope (causing the headlight to angle slighty upwards - as many nsw cruisers would of noticed with mine). however they can be simply fixed by shaving a bit of the plastic off the side, so it doesnt ram into the car bracket and can fit in place properly). hope that made sense.

Yep - about 4 different versions of the parabolics, all with different part numbers.
1) Two piece Glass Sports/VRX (has parker bulb fitted)
2) Two piece Glass Verada (no parker bulb)
3) Once Piece Polycarbonate Sports/VRX (has parker bulb fitted)
4) Once Piece Polycarbonate Verada (no parker bulb)
The one piece polycarbonate lenses are a later model. The glass model will cope with overwattage bulbs better than the polycarb model, but overwatt H7 bulbs that are worth a damn are few and far between. I would only suggest Philips Ralleye 80W for overwatt, and Philips H7 vision Plus for standards. Neither are 'Blue' bulbs.
The beam pattern on the polycarbonate lensed versions is more refined, I found the lens was somewhat distorted on the glass ones.
Playdoh and tape...
If you have the choice - I would do the job properly.
For beam quality - the standard Hella headlights as fitted to the Magna Executives are a far better... Parabolics sure are pretty though.

a slight thread hijack here, but heath, i have replaced the bulbs in my standard headlights with some phillips ones, and tho didnt take much notice to how good the old ones were ( i wanted the whiter lights) have found the magna headlights to be very ordinary. (this comparing to a ba fairlane) the right side light seems to cut off very abrubtly, and when trying to find street signs and houses on the right at night its very difficult with them.
Could i have installed the new lights rong, is this a normal thing with aftermarket bulbs, or is it just a magna thing? and can it be easily remedied?

Its a magna thing...
You are comparing apples and oranges - the headlights on a BA Falcon are actually pretty good - they are a complex corner reflector - notice that they do not have any shielding around the bulb, and the lens is clear - they are designed in such a manner that each segment in the reflector images the filament of the bulb and sends it off onto the road at the desired angle.
The Magna Executive headlights are a fresnel design - they use a parabolic reflector (rather than complex corner) and use a fresnel lens, where the textured glass on the front is a complicated lens that images the light from the bulb into the desired pattern.
Note that the fresnel design is not as efficient as a complex corner reflector.
If you are finding that the lighting pattern is different with different bulbs, it may be that the bulbs you fitted are either incorrectly fitted, or the filament position is incorrect.
The standard headlamps are H4's - so it is pretty difficult to mess up how these are fitted (as opposed to the Parabolic style which are very easy to incorrectly fit).
What bulbs did you fit? Philips what exactly? I havn't had any problems with incorrect filament geometry in Philips, Osrams yes, hella yes.
You may need to get your headlamps properly aimed.
Magna Executive headlamps suck, Parabolic headlamps suck even worse. I would love to get some Hella Headlamp modules and go the whole hog (twin headlamp conversion, a-la XR6 / XR8)
