Hey guys im new here and im about to buy a car sometimes this week. Probably friday. Ive been doing some searching on Magnas and am very interested. I love the shape and features and the interior is awesome of the 2003/2004 TL range. And i reckon at the moment i can have a very good deal in between $19k - $21k. Im just wondering what people think of it? Any flaws, how are they mechanicaly? What should i look for? Thanks

if you can, save up more and get the upcoming 380. otherwise, yea, the amount you have should get you a nice TL.

yeh i have been considering that but i dont think i can wait any longer. my vs commodore is being a worse and worse nightmare every day. so for the time being i think i might settle for a nice TL magna.

Hahaha, that's a familiar scene!
I went from a VS comm to KH verada, and havn't looked back since!
I say go for it! But why settle with base model? for that kinda dosh you could get KJ2 Verada \o/

haha, yeah i've heard that a lot about holden. i've been looking at the biggish family sedans lately and basically ruled out fords and commodores straight away. i had a look at them again, and just found so many dissatisfied customers.
i've got about a 3rd of what you have to spend, so i can't really give you any advice. other then get a manual if possible...

yeah, i think price wise magna's are very good value already, although most ppl say when the 380 comes out magna values will tumble, however i dont think it will effect it that much, coz most of the time the upcoming 380 factor has already been factored in the current price, jsut look at current brand new es or ls magnas, brand new ones selling for 25-30k! also used 4 - 5 yr base models approaching $10k

so for 19-21k, i reckon you could pick up a nice 2 yr old verada or maybe an 2004 ES :D

I had a choice to either get my TJ Manual Sports for 20 or get a TL Auto ES for 20 also went the sports due to the better interior setup than the std ES plus the more power and manual box of course.

I went from a VS commodore to a TL magna. Very happy with my purchase.
As for the commodore thing, we had our commodore from new and never had a problem with her, only sold it cos it was no longer suitable for my job. Loved that car, and i would defently buy another commodore if i needed one, however i found that the TL was far better value then a VY commodore hene my purchase. I think its the same with all car makers, i have heard lots of people they will never say a holden again, and lots of people say they will never buy a mitsubishi again.. unfortunately all car makers make the odd lemon :(
If your going to get a TL try and get a manual ;) so much more fun!

just thought i'd put in that everyones comparing vs' to tj's...
dads got a 2003 statesman and its ****ing brilliant, v8 power pretty much no matter what the speed but yeah i'd go magna as they seem to get the best out of everything...eg i have 25 or so kw less than a vs but same top end through fwd (mines 95 ~same as vs)

For that price I would look at the warranty runout models (ones previously owned by MMAL)
They have between 10k and 40k on the clock, but they come with full warranty.
If you can wait until more towards end of year. Wait till the 380 Model is out, then you will see TL Magna's for below 18k as they will be trying to get rid of them to make way for the new model.

and wont that be a fun time for existing TL owners and their resale values :doubt:

Yeah.. I really do feel sorry for the guys buying TL's at the moment because all the Lease arrangement will be up and then they will be replaced with the 380's..
So you get a 2 fold problem.. Lots and lots of ex-lease TL's going really cheap and lots and lots of 'runout stock' not moving = even less cost to buy one with less k's on the ODO.
So great news for people in the market for one.. Bad news for those trying to off them..

dude im on a lease agreement atm, my lease will be up for renewal in 4 years time, it has an 8k residual on it.. i highly doubt my car will still be worth 8k in 4 years time the way things are going
it hurts just thinking about it.. it really does

Good luck i looked around at a number of TL VRX's and they were all sitting around the 28g mark i doubt many people will be able to haggle 8g off a car.
Trust me i've looked and tried it doesn't work very well.

Theres 2 .. 23k and 24k.
You can get at least 2k off the price usually. SO around the 20 is easy. If you hold out a few months, watch them drop in price.. Good times for 2nd hand buyers..
