View Full Version : Transmission Linkage question

My brother in law has an injected TP that has a problem with the auto trans linkage. It looks like the linkage has moved as the park pawl wont quite engage in the transmission (but you can hear it almost engaging), the car wont turn over unless the trans lever is in neutral (or sometimes a little forward of neutral) or pushed hard up into Park.

From what I can see the neutral safety switch is in or on the transmission case, not under the t-bar. Looks to me like the way to fix this is to re-adjust the lever at the end of the trans cable to move it futher down to the end of the cable. The concern I have is that I am compensating for something else that's broken in the transmission cable/linkage assembly.

I plan to look at it closely in the next week but was wondering if someone can confirm the points above and give me any advice on what to look for. Is it just as simple as readjusting the linkage on the end of the cable ? What would have made it go out of alignment ? Could the cable have shifted at the T-Bar end ?
