From what i was told by a couple of Mitsu dealers here in perth Series I was reffering to TE-TH Models and Series II TJ Models. Aparrently Mitsu decided to do this half way through the TJ Models... Im not 100% sure if this is correct as some of the sales boys told me this and we all know how " accurate " they can be.

Some with the Executives Models:

TJ Series 2 difference compared to Series 1

Exterior

Different wheel covers
Electric aerial
Series 2 badge on boot

Interior

Passenger Airbag
ABS
Pwr Windows

Oh yeah, the Series 2 Advance gets Climate Control air con over the Series 1

Hope this kind of helps. :D

Now that you mention it. A lot of the earlier TJ (2000/2001) Magna sports have only one airbag on the passenger side. My Magna sports has dual airbags. As I would expect your vrx to have 2 also.

I'm thinking that they decided to only mark the executives and left the sports/vrx alone.

It's a pity it isn't something useful like an extra 20 kW! I suppose I wont be saying that if I have a smash.

Damn this story with the tj's is a bit complex. There's actually 3 series of tj's. You first had the tj series one which was from late 2000 to the start of 2002. Then in the early months of 2002 mitsu changed the motor to the vrx motor (except for the muffler) and added abs, electric aerial and few other added extras to various models. Mitsu refers it to the series 1.5. Then you have the official series 2 tj's with the different hubcaps, etc.

It is complex.

Then you see this very nice TJ II getting around with an LE badge on the boot lid. with:

Standard aircon, not climate
Leather seats
Verada type driving lights in the front under bumper spoiler
standard twin-pipe exhaust .. I presume that means the 155kw engine
nice mag wheels.. 16's I think.

Nice package. I wonder how much ?? Anyone? :)

This would be the one... $32K new!!!!

yup.... same computer but different position, i prefer the one in the top of the center console, rather than in the dash. something looks missing otherwise. in series 2, the lights for the guages are always on kinda like on the new series corolla, looks cool.

That's what I thought too. My Sports has the digital odometer with the trip computer in the instrument cluster but its manufacture date would seem to indicate that it was made well before series 2 came out... and there's no S2 badge. The guys at the dealership sold it to me as a series 1, not that it matters except for resale.

Yes, we all know that there is an AWD (4WD) Sports model, and that it wasn't available until after the FWD Series 2 range came out, but the AWD Sports has 159kW, not 155kW, and there is also a Series 2 FWD Sports version that still has 163kW.

REV937: First of all.. Could you please try and write in proper english because I think I, amongst others probably had a bit of trouble understanding what you are trying to say. Also could you please refrain from accusing other users of knowing nothing as you did in a previous post because it just kills the whole idea of this forum being a friendly community. Not trying to offend you, just would make things a lot easier understanding eachother rather than arguing.

The AWD magna is a totally different case. We are only talking about the fwd magna. The awd came out a little bit after the fwd series 2 magnas came out. The AWD sports has 159kw and the other two awd magna models have 154kw.

Oh and yes, a main feature of the series 2 magnas was that all automatic models had tiptronic.

Also, I noticed that you use carpoint to research your info. Just thought you should know that carpoint isn't very accurate. A much better resource for power and weight of a vehicle would be a wheels magazine of the manufacturer website.

Trust me we all know that AWD manga's exist. Only reason people said you're off the planet was because AWD magna's have nothing to do with what this post was discussing

i own a series 2 VRX man its not AWD. they are different underpowered and aparently have problems with mags over 16in which sucks that phat one.

series 2 vrx's that ive seen have been badged but im guessing that perhaps the marketing dept didnt get into the bandwagon till a little later.

Yeah mitsubishi screwed up their whole series two badging. Easiest way to put it is that any tj from 2000-2001 is series 1 and any from 2002-2003 are series 2.

I think mitsu's excuse for the 16" rims on the awd are total bull. The same overall diameter can be kept by using larger rims will have 0 affect on anything else on the car. eg. I have 19's on my car and the tyre/rim overall diameter is kept exactly the same as what my 15's were. They just used that excuse to deter questioning.

Technically, TJ II came in from July 2002. :)

Yeah the official series 2 is as of july 2002. Thing is my cars a march build 2002 and its got everything the series 2 had except for the series 1 hubcaps and the badging. My cars manual so only other difference would have been the transmission if i had bought an auto.

The TJII was "officially" built from November 2002 onwards...although some of the extras/differences were part of a running change.

That would explain why I started seeing those crappy looking series II badges on bootlids around Christmas new year.. and none before that. Mitsu only officially released the Series II in November!

Redbook says July.!! How does this impact Magna's already poor resale? ????

Old topic, I know... but it never really seemed to be resolved...
The TJ Magna (Series 1) was built until the middle of 2002 and sold as the TJ Magna. I'm not sure what happened between July 2002 and the end of that year, but 2003 (perhaps a little earlier) the TJ II (Series 2) Magna was sold, badged as the Series II, and identified on it's VIN plate as the TK Magna. Some time after, the new shaped Magna came out as the TL Magna and here we are..

I have a February 2003 TK/TJII Magna sitting in the garage at the moment... The TK/TJII series runs for around $36k last time I checked (Quite some time ago, so the price may have come down), but they can be had for under $30 I believe. I got mine for 26 with a TE Magna (360,000kms) trade in through dealer (Don't go with dealer... You can get a much better deal).. One day I woke up and found out my parents had sold the damn car..

As for interior comfort, I got the Exec model. Doesn't have chrome INVECS-II Tiptronic surround, nor leather seats. Pretty much the same as the TE except for cupholders, magazine holders, cruise control, relocated boot release, remote boot release..

Performance wise, as far as I know, the Series II run off the 3.5 V6 engine - 155kW. Exhaust note is now louder than it's predecessors thanks to a more freely flowing muffler, but unless you've been driving a Magna for a while, I don't think it's something you'd notice that much. Everything else is pretty much the same..

Hope it helps.. even if it is a bit late.. dammit maybe I should read these forums more often.
