Hay, hows it goin.
i have a little problem in my TE.
whenever i get the revs up to 2,500 rpm i get a fairly load rattle and it stops at around 3,000 rpm. What could this be, and how would be the best way to fix it.
I have a 2 and a half inch exhaust on my beast. :D

A rattle in the muffler, or does it sould like the whole muffler isnt connected properly?

How long have you had the muffler installed?

Someone else had a very simlular problem and it turned out to be thier flex pipe and heat sheild. Might be worth a shot of jacking the car up, placing it on axel stands and getting under it to have a good look.

Me! I've had/have that problem.....
A few possible causes...

1. Catalitic converter. Mine was stuffed! Previous owner had givin' it a real flogging as I later found out and it was stuffed.... after 99,000km on a TH sports.... After market hi-flow cat is cheaper than genuine mitsu...

2. Heat shield rattling loose.... my guys tell me that on most cars this happens and that they throw them away, but not on a magna as the pipes go directly under the oil sump! I am not sure, but think aftermarket extracters do not go under the sump and therefore do not need heat shields (correct me if i am wrong).

3. Y bend from exhaust manifold into dump pipe.. there is some sort of vein thingie in there that can come loose (also apparently quite common in magnas) a drill whole to let the crap out and re weld up should fix that...

I had all these things done (not the extracter part), and still have my rattle... Only other cause that i know of is...

4. Flexi pipe from bottom of exhaust manifold to the catalitic converter, was not really explained to me what the problem was in this area, but would cost at least $250 for this 12in bit of pipe to be replaced.

I have not done this yet, as i plan to make one more trip to the exhaust joint to get extracters, and hi flow muffler at the same time... will get pics of the problem pipe when I get it done. (hopefully soon, but i have been saying this for months!)

Best of all, I restently test drove a factory VRX, series 2 demo with 6,000km on the clock..... it had a very simular rattle!!

Anyone else with a simular experience.... PLEASE help us fix the problem!!!

When u mentioned 2 1/2 inch exhaust... does it mean the whole unit or just the muffler or the extractors..

The magna OEM exhaust from the manifold back to the muffler are a tight fit. When you had your system done, the mechanic might have flexed the joint too much. Like blakie said, hook the car up, shake the pipes (When it's not hot  ) rattle the whole length and try and find out where it's coming from, if it's from the flex joints, just go down to the mechanic and borrow that "f" shaped tool and bend it away from the point of contact. If it's the pipe, then I think you might have to heat bend the bugger...

Had the same problem when I had a full system installed in my old TH sports... But nothing a professional mechanic can't fix...

Things we do for our rides

ive got a rattle as well in my car, its noisy when cold and totally non existent when hot. I went to mitusbishi and he said it was a wipper pipe? whippet? i got no idea apparently its a common problem on the magnas. He said it wont stuff the car up its just noisy. Quoted me 400 bucks... sick of cars costig me money!
