Where is the best place to put a 30cm neon tube in the rear footwell so that they dont get kicked and damaged?

for the passenger side, just shove it under the bottom somewhere...there's a certain place where u can put it, so nobody can see it

the driver's side is a little trickier.

i ended up making a little aluminium bracket, screwed it onto the air vent and the other side to the tube. That was coz if u were to stick the tube to the bottom of the plastic panel under the steering wheel (just above the pedals) its really bright and people sitting in the back have the bright light in their eyes.

umm...meh?

reinforced steel cage, bolted to the bottom of the front seats?
obviously some stupid curious drunk person will try and jump, pull out and/or snap your tube. can't really stop someone snapping them unless u bbolt a steel bar to the tube or something.

or....NO NEONS!

yeah, i'm over having neons inside the car... :doubt:

piece of aluminium, cut out some interesting shaped holes, patterns in it, and bolt it somewhere secure. Uno, sorta like a template thing over ur neons. Protects it from snapping, and helps entertain 14yo boys and drunks

All I did was with one cable tie, tied it to the ring pull that you use to pull the seat off. And just stuffed the inverter under the seat. Works a treat! :)

The only problem being that I have snapped one "globe", but i think it may have been a dodgy one cos it's the only one I've had a problem with.

You might want to try the Jaycar neons... - they're actually cold cathodes, and they're a lot thinner than the Aerpro neons that you can get from Autobarn/JB. That should make it easier to hide.

If you're going to be using cable ties, just suspend the tube from the ends, don't have a third cable tie in the middle as that will mean it may flex and snap easier.

LED Strips may be another option?? Aerpro do a few so you may have some options there..

That's what I've got. They're pretty awesome at night :)
Yeah, in the back, just cable tie them to the ring pull to get the back seat out. Takes 2 mins to install.

is it legal?
is it legal to have the 'cloud' effect underneath your car?
would the lights get damaged being under the car?

I'm sure there are plenty more mods that are more illegal than underbody neons... and the discussion isn't regarding underbodies :D

Seems like underbody neons are a grey area, and have been for quite some time... general consensus is that they are 'not legal'.

any extra lights, par, indicators, reversing lights, brake lights, fog lights / driving lights, tail lights and headlights, that may confuse or distract other drivers are illegal

to have on whilst driving, there no law against having them fitted to your car, aslong as u only use them when your not driving

hey i did mine, have had done for a while.. best place for me, was inbetween the crack of the seat, like where it pivots, if your thinking how will it stay there?, good question, i used the seat cover strap(thingo) to wrap around it, then tie it up, holds it in place.. ill try take some photo's

and in perth with underbodie neons, you are allowed to have them, on or off, as long and the neon isnt visible, tucked away, and have to have certain specifics, like groung clearance. etc...

yeh as already said having any extra lights on arent legal but if yor car doesnt have the engine running theres no problem. although iv got a bright red 1 in my car that lights up the entire interior when driving and is easily noticable to other cars driving past and had many cops drive straight past and not worry about it so just depends who the cops are and how lucky you are

It really depends who you ask... I got told the same thing by VicRoads here in Melb. But I called again a few months later and they say it's illegal, it's always been illegal etc. etc.

You might wanna check that every so often... unless you have it in writing.

not in perth mate..one of my mates has like 48 neons in his Hiace van in total including full ubnderbodies and he never turns them off if there is cops n stuff, they dont really care as much here as long as they['re not flashing showing and prolly a few other things

in NSW, it is all down to the officer who sees your Vehicle, Wiper Jet Neons are illegal as they are at Eye level, but an Underbody kit that is either Purple, yellow or Green may be able to pass..
In NSW the General rules with Neons are

1. No Actual Tube must be visible only the glow
2. No Glow must be above eye level in a seated position.
3. No neons to be illuminated whilst vehicle is in motion..
4. The reporting Officer can/Will deem if your Neons are illegal.. If you are Defected then the offending Neons Must be removed from the vehicle, not just switched off..
