How wide are the rims? a 225 on a 6 inch rim would be too wide, even 215s are pushing it, 205 are the best fit for a 6 inch wide rim, but the highest load rating i've been able to find on a 205/55-16 tyre is 91, my KR states that it should have a 92 load rating at the least.

If you have aftermarket rims that are wider than 6 inches then you should be fine running the 225, provided the offset of you new rims is high enough so you don't foul the tyre against the struts.

What size rims are you running? The OE 16" tyre is 215/60R16 95H, I think the rim is a 6.5". You "might" get a 225 on them.

I had 215 on my Std steel rims for the TE and they fitted without a hitch and I was recommended to have them on the car handled alot better after, even better tho with the 17's with 235's on.

My New AMG Akuza's are 16x7 as far as I know...so 225/50 R16 should be OK to use ??

I have a KH which come with 215 60 16 on the stock alloy and i changed them to 225 55 16 which has been great. Same ride height which keeps the speedo the same but a fair bit wider. Look great and fit perfectly. No side effects at all going wider. Just much more grip. Still run the Bridgestone Turanza's.

They jump in price a fair bit though.

yep, tell me about it.

215/60R16 $140
225/55R16 $190

Those stock ER30s work pretty good on my KJ and are very quiet too.
Dry grip is decent even when doing stupid moves; too old to try
stupid things in the wet with a 2-tonne whale anymore. :P

Still shopping around... hmm, 10mm less = $100 saved...

Hey Magnette.

Have you got the new tyres yet? I stayed with the ER30's in the 225 because i had ER30's origionally in 215, then went Pirelli then Michelin and they were both as noisy as hell. Wanted a quiet tyre to suit the car. The 225's are great, just as quiet as the 215's but have so much more grip. You wouldnt feel the difference in normal driving which is good, but when grip is needed, they have so much more. And the 10mm makes a massive difference in the look of the tyre. 215's look so skinny on a Verada but the 225's look nice and wide as they should. I couldnt get over how much wider they look.

Nah still shopping. Got plenty of time, plenty of thread (6-7mm?) left on my ER30s.
Might wanna get a new pair before next winter maybe; by then they might be
getting on 4yrs old so the rubber might be hardening up - time for fresh rubber.
I walk/tram/bike to work so the car is very low mileage; heck, I turn TCS off
so I can purposely scrub some rubber off.

Looking at the 225s but then I'd be tempted to go for 4 pcs all at once to match.

Stick with stock 215s and I can buy a new pair for next 2 winters. Plus $200 cheaper.

Michelins which are standard fitment on Camry Sportivo, yeah they roar pretty loudly.

I just got new rims myself and got the Perillis P6 on them (215/60/R16) they seem handle well and I don't find them noisy.

As i mentioned in a tyre tread a long time ago, increasing the width only marginally increases
the price of the tyre. The extra cost is in the 55 profile (which is not very popular, hence
expensive). Just ask your tipical Mazda 626, Ford telstar, etc owners how much they spend on
their 205/55R15 tyres. I bet they cost more than a 225/50R16 tyres.

yep, "rarer" they get, price goes up.

You really don't wanna know what's the quote on a Michelin XZX 165x15... $250 each.
Classic rubber but it ain't even a very rare size as it the standard size for a VW Bug!!
But I suspect no Bug driver is gunna overcapitalise their car
by spending $1000 on new set of tyres.

Cheaper Kumhos & China-made etc available in same size, so dare say VW guys go for those.

Just saw a KMart ad for ER30s in 215 for $135 ea, incl fitting/valve/balance. Hmm...

I remember spending $200 per tyre on a set of 215/55HR16 ER50s and I also remember
spending $200 per tyre on a set of 225/50/ZR16 GD-D3s. Big difference.

A friend of mine needed 2 new tyres on her '03 Barina SXi, Perelli P6000 @ $199 a tyre!!! for a 1.3litre Barina. At first i thought she was being had so rang a few contacts and sure enough that was the going rate for the size etc. I couldnt believe it. I have 17" Grid II Bridgestones (factory fit) which i feel would prob be around $250 (guess) a tyre but these are a performance tyre, not to mention larger.....and, yet, only $50 (guesstimate) difference.

Pirelli's gotta charge their markup for printing their annual Calendars.

I approve! :2cool: :rofleek:
