I have heard some talk about these "electronic turbos", yet to see one though. Pretty much the theory is on the "fan" they have magnets and a magnet on the body of the turbo with opposite charges so they push away from each other keeping the turbo spooling to eliminate/reduce lag.

I have heard they are only good for 6 or 7 psi so thats why they are not very popular, my question is if they actually exist, would it be possible to do a twin turbo set up with a elec turbo as the first turbo to get the get the revs up very quickly due to the limited lag and then the 2nd turbo being the bigger one?

I know that is the basic idea of a normally TT setup, just wondering if you can combine the tradtional turbo and elec turbo to limit the lag.

I reckon supercharging would be a better idea IMHO. No exhaust manifolds to worry about. No lag, responsive, and you can run low boost setups if one wished :)

where can these electronic turbos be purchased and are they available second hand

phew *breathes out* for a second there i thought this would be a thread about the slaughter of a manga by using a fake/electronic BOV :P

Just what i was thinking and sorry never heard of them .

Not as high as 6-7psi, more like 1-1.5psi.

They do exist, saw an article years back in hot 4's or something - they draw incredible current from the battery, and will only work in short duty cycles - 30 seconds max, then overheat protection comes in.

Nifty, but exxy.

Flow was good enough for a small (think 1.3l) 4, but marginal for a 6.

Would be an idea, but it kinda died. Never to be heard from again.

from what i understand these 'electronic turbos' are just tiny little fans that force air into the engine except the amount they force is the same amount that they resist from their fan size im not 100 sure but its somethin lyk that but aparently they are crap..but then people say magnas are crap and they arent

Just read a Hot4's letter on them and it says its not worth it may as well do something else to your engine as it would give you more gains

There was one for sale on ebay a couple of days ago. Still might be there.

any power used from battery needs a altinator to put it back in, ever turned everything on in ya car and heard the rpm drop ? what do you think a eletric turbo is going to do? turbos use waist energy from exhaust, superchargers need engine power to drive them . so the best way is to turbo use the free energy .dont use energy to try make energy

That ebay one is a joke.

If it doesn't use power leads about as thick as your little finger, then forget it.

The power required to produce the pressures/flow required is crazy - think 120A.

The one I was talking about draws almost as much power as a starter motor.

As i said i had only heard about them and was just wondering if they existed and if this theory would work...

I would so love forced induction but it all costs money and so does a house and living...
