Ok i know that this question has probably been asked a thousand times already...but i couldnt find enough information from previous posts and its too hard to find what i want to know. Basically i want to take the old ones out, and install new ones. So my questions are: how do i remove the standard speakers from the dash? What size are they? Can i use the wiring thats already in there for the new speakers? And how do i put the new ones in? Will the windscreen get in the way so i cant screw the screws in like what happened with the back window being in the way when i installed my 6x9's in the back? Thanks :)
Also, before you all go saying to cut holes in my doors and put in 6" ones in the doors instead, i dont want to do that, i just want speakers that are better than the ones that are there so i dont have to have the stereo with 100% of the sound just coming from the back.

ive been faced with the same stuff on my TS, crappy little speakers in the dash an nothing else.
im pretty sure theyre 3" speakers in your dash... and sorry for this but yes, im going to tell u to take them out and put speakers in your door
or u could do what im doin, leaving the 3" in there, but disconnecting them and putting 6" in my doors

They are 4" in the dash.
it is possible to get them out, but you must have either the smallest screwdriver in the world or some amasing skill to get them out.
trust me, your better off getting 6" in the doors. it will sound so much better and it will be about one thousand times easier and quicker to do.
so your real choice is:
1. try to get the dash speakers out, with a lot of swearing involved
or
2. just cut holes in the door trim and put the 6" in.
your choice...........

I dont really want to go cutting my doors up. The 6x9's in the back do most of the work anyway, i just want better ones in the front, i dont have the right tools and dont trust myself enough to cut my doors to put 6's in. If its too much work to change the front speakers i will just stick with my 6x9s and thats all like i have at the moment. I just want to be able to have some sound coming from up the front as well as the back.

 ummm :poke: I just want to know how to remove the covers from the old speakers, take them out, and put better ones in. Thats what i want to do, i dont want to know if you think i should put them in the door or whatever. This is what i want to do, and all i want to know is how to do it, thats all... Thanks

i state once again, the front speakers are 4"
any 4" speaker will fit. i had sony 4" 3 ways in there at one stage.
to remove you will need to lift off the cover with a flat head screw driver.
once you have done that, you will need to find a way of undoing the screws(i found that either neddle nose pliers or a small phillips head bit will get them out). if you are installing new speakers, you may have to cut out some of the plastic out of the bottom. don't stress, there is plenty of room in the bottom to fit speakers. other than that, you have to wire them up and mount them again.
if this uploads properly, this is one of the speakers that should be in there. if i had an image of the 4" sonys that i put in there, i would up load that, but alas, i sold them ages ago to put 6" in the doors

That is not true at all. The front speakers are 4", yes, not every speaker will fit. Only crappy speakers with tiny ant sized magnets will fit. It you want to get a decent speaker in there you'll need to hack away the plastic at the bottom to make the speaker sit flush.
Hint// If you remove the cover you'll notice there is a black plastic spacer attatched to the cover, if you remove the spacer from the cover (steel guard with tiny holes) you can just place the cover back on without the black spacer. This will give up 1-1.5 more cm of depth to play with. So if you're lucky you might be able to put jbl's in there and it'll still sit flush. I know for sure the pioneers fit flush with the spacer removed.
If you don't want to remove the spacer you can go by yourself some tweeters and throw them in there cos i doubt any 4" speakers with a magnet depth so shallow will be any good anyways.
Hint// Forget about changing the front speakers and fade it all to the back, it's not like you'll be creating much of a front stage with 4"'s anyways

The speakers are 4", any 4" speaker will fit (some may need the plastic cut away a little but this is no biggy, takes 2 seconds).
Just lift up the grill with a flat head screwdriver, it'll just pop off. Then i used a tiny drill bit phillips head to unscrew them and then to screw in the new ones, 4" speakers will most likely not be running too much juice so stock wiring is fine. You may need to break off 2 of the edges on the 4" speaker to make it fit, but this is a standard procedure (most 4" speakers will let you do this easily with just your hands).

i have 5 1/4 door speakers and used the stock locations for the tweeter mounting, the imaging is pretty damn good! my tweeters are angles towads the rear view mirror!
but in all honesty on the cheap putting 4 inch 2 ways on the dash and a sub or 6x9s in the rear is all you really need! unless you want a ear splitting kidney thumpin system :D

they are 4" and I got mine out with no swearing involved but I did get a bloody hand for the edge of the speaker it was pointy. takes too long to get 6" into door but sounds and looks better than 4".

I bought some 4" kenwood speakers (to match the rest of my system) today and i put them in without any swearing. The hardest bit was undoing the screws with pliers! The covers fitted on but i had to remove the plastic bit of the covers and just have the metal bit. It now sounds a lot better than it did, and the little 4's keep with my 6X9's untill VERY loud! Thanks for your help.

Hey that's really good. Good on ya mate, don't forget to tell magnat about your system and let him have a listen, jk.
Always good to see people enjoying their system, and self install too. Self instal is important for learning and you'll appreciate it so much more.

self install is the way to go, i highly recomend buying the door pods from the TS, i brought them today for 30 bucks, not only can you you fit some 6 inch splits, in but the map pocket actually becomes useful!

so i'm assuming your system is all kenwood? there are lots of anti-kenwood people in here. lol. before i came to this forum, i thought kenwood was a very reliable brand. But the guys here told me to stay off their head units and i believed them.
anyways, what are the model of your front speakers? wats the depth? i'm looking for them as well. how much did u get those for?
i noticed at the local 'pick-a-part' that the crap 4in dash speakers were indeed very shallow because of the plastic directly behind and abandonned any hope of a decent speaker fitting. but after reading this thread it has rekindled my interest .
hey maccy D waz this about TS door pods? i have a TS wagon and i've got those useless map pockets and from what i've read and seen at pick-a-part, that is the norm. where'd did you get these $30 pods?

I noticed your pure hate for Kenwood, but why? Why not hate Sony Xplod, because we all know that they suck more than Kenwood :)

I have seen more problems with Kenwood then Sony Xplod..
I actually like some of the Xplod gear, but absolutely hate all of what Kenwood make including their Electric Kettles...
lol. electric kettles?! personally i like JBL as a brand. though i dunno much about speakers.

I think kenwood is a very good brand. I have had no problems. And i also think they sound better than the ...other more popular brand which i wont say... that my friend has in his car.
My system is a KDC-126 CD-Receiver, KFC-M6940ie 4-way 6x9's, and KFC-10695 2-way 4's. The 4's without their own covers (which are round and would look funny in the dash) Is 49.7mm. They dont sit flush in the holes and like i said the plastic bit of the covers needs to be removed. But then they do fit, the covers dont quite sit into place properly, but you dont notice. Just these front speakers alone sounds 10 times better than the standard front speakers alone for all those people who said it wouldnt make much of a difference. :snooty:

I think there's not as much hatred for sony xplods, because sony's work just sound like crap but they do work.

yes i am interested in these as well. are these stock out of a verada or something like that? or are they completely aftermarket?

these were stock, i think out of a verada as the car was a wagon with power windows and fake wood grain, ddt i got them from pick and payless blacktown for 30 bucks with a few other bits and bobs, although it was the only car there that had them, and yes they were a complete factory fitment, well worth it for a factory look which you can also use the map pockets in, plus 30 dollars give or take is alot less than what a aftermarket set would cost that wouldnt match the interior.

Hi Guys,
Just a tip for those wanting to remove the standard 4" in dash speakers in a TR/TS Magna. Try using a phillips head screw driver bit attachment thingy (you know the bit that you put in the end of your cordless drill to screw in phillips head screws). I used one of those in conjunction with a 6mm (I think) ring spanner to undo and then re-install screws. Simply put ring spanner over the drill bit and use the spanner for sideways motion and have a single finger on top of the bit to provide some downward pressure to make sure the bit stays in place on the screw. When the spanner has moved as far as it can, just slide the ring spanner down near the tip before swinging back to the start point, raising the ring spanner on the bit again and so on.
I had the standard speakers out in about 2 minutes. Too easy. Forget those bendy screw driver things you can get a Super Crap Auto.
As for new 4" speakers to put in the dash to replace the standard ones - the search continues......

hey dude in my last system i had. i thought bought the same thing putting 4" in but i found it a lot easier when my mate asked me to do the same thing to his TS that was a mish and i can tell you i was running pioneer 6.5" 3 way coaxs and the front stage sounded unreal all i did was cut out some holes down in the door trim and walla they fitted nice and they look decsent and my speakers only cost me like $99 brand new so if i was you i would save myself the troubles and get some coaxs in cause they work much better for the same price. i will post a pic for you in a lil bit cause i still have one hope i helped you out.
whilst cutting, did you have those useless map pockets to contend with?

You don't cut through the map pockets, guys!
You undo the whole trim, unscrew teh map pockets from the back and then cut the trim.
