View Full Version : Car staggers at low speeds

Ive got a TR on gas (dual fuel) Only use high octane but its on gas 90% of the time
Its running at 17 degress.
Could having it advanced this much cause it to stagger at low speeds.
When im coming off from the lights or traveling at low speeds the car lurches, like its accelerating and stopping really quick over and over again until the car speeds up then its okai.
What could be causing this?

a work van did this, i was told to top up the coolant and it fixed it.... sounds like a load of sh1t to me but cant complain cos it worked. probably a coincidence

Why dont you run it on fuel for a few weeks and see how it goes. I still don't believe it is good to run gas full time unless the internals have been adapted better for it. You need to give it a break once in a while, give it some real fuel ;)

it runs on normal petrol ever time its started, and it has to run on petrol until it warms up.
Can running the car at 17 degrees cause problems like this?

its not recomended to run any more than 2 deg advance on lpg they get a silent ping that does dammage like a normal ping

From everything i have come to understand lpg will hardly ever ping because its high octane, like 103 or something.
How can you have a silent ping, an explosion that makes no noise?
Can you explain it more magnus.

Not Exactly A Ping But It Does The Same Dammage As A Ping Talk To Any Lpg Fitters Max 5 Deg Ive Fitted Lpg For Years And Ill Only Go 2 Deg More My Ford Maverick Is On Straight Lpg Custom Intake Manafold Was Made Using A Ea Throttle Body And A 300a Mixer This Was Bolted To A 3'' Pipe I Also Had To Mod The Dissy To Keep The Kv Down If I Wind The Dissy More Than 5 Deg I Lose Power And You Can Hear It Crackel Under Load

At low speeds, when im on LPG it feels like the car is about to stall, like someone is choking my car and it doesnt stop till i get a bit of speed going. Doesnt happen with normal fuel.
Do you think putting setting the degress back a bit should help fix it? what do you recommend to set it at?

I have the same sort of problem but i don't have LPG whenever i'm going at around 5 - 20km/h the car will just jolt all of a sudden like i've slammed the brakes on for a sec, it all started when i was low on money for ages and always running it right down on empty. I have no idea what it is though.

I replaced both vacum hoses (i know ones a vacum hose, not sure bout the other, it went from near the throttle bottle on the air intake to the head of the engine)
Anyways both of these hoses were old, hard, cracked etc
Replacing both of them seemed to help alot.
But can anyone tell me if i turn my degress back will it help a bit?
I would just go do it myself but i dont have a timing light so ill have to go to the mechanics.

Get The Timing Reset And The Mixtures Reset For The Lpg Depending On The Lpg Sys It Might Need New Diaphrams

O Also Check The Lpg Lock Some Locks Have A Filter Builtin To It. The Filter May Be Blocked

hey magnus,
is there any other ways to supply LPG to a carbie AstronII?
I have a ring smaller than the origional diameter, and a small 'horn' jet thing inside...
Can something off a 6 or 8 cyl engine be tuned for a 4cyl?
consumption is really bad too, i get 280km to 65lt of LPG WHICH REALLY SUCKS.
Im from hobart and cos the market is so tight LPG is friggen 0.59 a litre so its almost the same cost to use ULP

try to find a 225a mixer and run a b2 convertor my maverick runs b2 convertor and 300a mixer plenty of power more than petrol and smoother responce. http://www.propanecarbs.com/examples.html
Im from hobart and cos the market is so tight LPG is friggen 0.59 a litre so its almost the same cost to use ULPnot unless ULP costs $1.25 like it is here!

the gas lock near the convertor normily has a little filter under it .....turn of lpg tank .....undo 7/16 bolt under lock ....warning.....no smoking some lpg will leak out of the hose for a few sec....check filter dont lose the 2 or 3 orings ..do not use any sealant on orings ...take a pic of your lpg system for me ill tell you if and how to set mixtures ....use soapy water to make sure there is no leaks spray around all fittings when reassembled
