i aint exactly sure.. but i know it has something to do with powering things from your battery... not something i would muck around with.. i dont have the know how..

hahahah blake ya gumby.

a really basic relay ( 4 pin ) has a electromagnetic coil in it you power that via normally 12 volts 2 pins one for ground the other for power when you power this it energises the coil and pulls accross a plate that connects the other 2 contact pins together thus making an electrical circuit :P

then there are more complex relays

Hrmm.... So whats the point of a relay?

Forgive me for my ignorance, i was dropped on my head as a baby

yeah that we all know, but how many times ? lol j/k

all sorts of reasons , to many to list but for a SPST relay in a car just to switch a high current or voltage via a smaller voltage or to safely switch the circuit inside the cabin

Gotchya, that makes sense.

Im gonna play with these parabolics some more this week

Just finnsihed the 3 stage meguires (is that how u spell it) clean, polish, wax and im exhausted

Relays are good things... You can use them to turn on a separate circuit when a different circuit is running.. e.g. Say you hooked up new interior lighting and you wanted it to turn on when the door opened, you had two options, run it straight from the battery and install a switch on the door (but what a pain that would be) or you could steal the power from the interior lighting circuit...

Problem with stealing power is that it has all sorts of effects on your circuit (maybe not in this instance that much though) so if you were running something that required a heap of power, you'd suck it from the circuit you're leeching off. Not a good thing...

Simply a relay closes or opens a switch whenever it has current flowing through it. Now we can connect a relay up to our standard interior lighting circuit and run a separate circuit from the battery for our new lights without having to install switches in the door and worry about draining the standard circuit's power because we have a new circuit direct from the battery... Downside is that since it's a new circuit, it's not fused unless you fuse it yourself. It can cost more, but it's the way it should be done and you can't get around it in some instances without seriously impacting other circuits...

... Far out it's been a while since I've been here.. What happened to the forums? I'm not saying I don't like it, but hey... this is a change.. Looks like I'll have to register soon...

there are way's around that , what i do is if say i want a circuit that turns on with the ignition i find the wire that is hot when the ignition is on ( Ie the radio or somthing ) then i disable that run that through a relay and then another relay for the job i wanna do that way there is absolutly no power loss at all and you can fuse it whichever way you like.

Ahh, nah what I meant is that you usually can't activate another circuit without using a relay without stealing the power from the former circuit... But that's a good point...

Well, looks like I did get around to registering in the end.. =P

haha no way you would ever hook a circuit strait up to another one :D

hehehe a magna in initial D ? :P

Hey, I've seen people doing it before... Like people who wire neons off their amp directly =/ Then again you see people doing really odd things to their cars...

Ahaha, yeah.. Magna in Initial D... keep dreaming eh?

hahaha naa i dont think i would want to see a magna in initial D

hahaha people can be so dodgy some times , not only did they wire the neons from the amp they probably mounted them under the car with 2 way tape

lol... yeah, I know someone who dragged their underbodies 30m because they came loose...

Don't want to see a Magna in Initial D? No one wanted to see the AE86 before...

hahhahahahha 30m , they must of been fairly well stuffed.

what do you mean no one wanted to see the ae86 ? i love Hachiroku's i just love em so much :D

here's mine, i was gonna put a 4age smallport in but i kinda misplaced the money on somthing else so the 4ac's gonna have to do for now.

Hachiroku's rock man wash your mouth out :P

Lol... Nothing personal against hachiroku's, but my initial reaction was like most people; "86?! Get real! Pfft!" Then I saw Initial D and heard about things going on elsewhere with them... I wouldn't mind owning one myself.. I figure that's how most people see Magnas... They look at them and think, "Pfft.. Family car.. 'sif that would ever go anywhere" ... If an AE86 can come out of nowhere and create such a name for itself from nothing, then so can the Magna... About time someone started viewing Magnas as something more than just a family car.

I dont know if you know this but many people think that it was Initial D MADE the hachiroku so popular , but in actual fact the hachiroku was A great sporting car they where extremly popular and there was alot of aftermarket performance companys making parts for them. People that like hachiroku's just for initial D generally dont give a shit about the car for what it is  , it today still remains one of the most done up 80's cars in Japan and i can see why , i love my hachiroku even with the 4ac engine its still got guts ( it can beat a lancer Glxi , well i have beaten one ) that's not bad for a 8 valve single carb 20 year old engine. Once i do it up its gonna be a Tidy car ... I hope.

Dont Trash the Hachiroku man , people have there own choices and tastes i dont even trash falcodoors even though i hate them.

I'd go out and buy an 86 if I could, but cash is anything but available... trashing the 86 is the last thing I'd do

How much are 86s anyway these days..?

depends on if there stock , what sort of condition there in all sorts of stuff. for a stock one that is in decent condition perhaps anywhere from $1500 to $5000

$1500!?

Hmmm... guess you'd be spending quite a bit on modification though? With that price, maybe it's something worth looking into... I thought it would have been a heck of a lot more expensive..
