Hey guys, just thought i might probe everyone's brains to try and figure out what the hell is going on with my car.

Over the last month or so i have noticed a rather large drop in fuel consumption from the average 650 a tank down to 500 and even 450 in some cases... The car doesn't have as much pickup / power as it use to have and is really driving like a slug.

I havn't changed the timing belt yet and i know its due at 100,000km's and mines done 112,000.

Does anyone have any idea's what could be behind this? I've just bought some injector treatment so im hoping this might help a little...

I dont know about the rest, but with your fuel economy,

You're on the right track, it's a fuel problem.

I would say it's injector related. when did you last put come cleaning fluid in your tank ?

It would have to be a good year ago when i first got it. Im going to do it today and i'll drive it around for a week and see how we go.

My mate has a HSV Manta and has an ultrasonic cleaner which is supposed to clean your injectors. What the hell does this actually do and how does it work? Is it worth a shot?

I know the original topic is pretty old, but only last night I noticed my 99 TH sounding louder than normal. This night i was holding the car in second gear and I floored it, and it made a very deep kind of snarl that it never did. I was like hmmm sounds awesome but dont sound right....

This morning, I turned the car on, waited for about 15 seconds then pulled out onto the road. My road to the nearest intersection is a slight incline. This morning the car felt like something was pulling it back it didnt climb it freely like it usually does...It felt very sluggish. But when its warm it goes hard like normal. But its still got that deep snarl to it. I checked the air box and its all intact. What is it?????????

One more thing, do any of u notice ur gearboxes being super smooth when its cold and when its hot/warm being a bit jerky? Weird to me

Exact same problem.. I used to be able to kick out 600 from a tank when we FIRST bought the TF brand new.. and now its just gone dowwnnn to 440/450 on a FULL tank.. Its weird and is starting to p*ss me off.. I was wondering what to do and everyone blames it on the heat.. but I mean come on.. could the heat make it decline so much?

Do u all go off ur trip computer?? Coz sometimes it goes haywire like i fill the car up with 10 bucks and it says the cars got no fuel left... Then I fill it up and now the highest i ever read was 500kms thats it.... I only ever get 480 max i think.......

BLAKE, change your fuel filter dude, I had the same problem too, changed my fuel filter and problem solvered mate. ;)

Also I get around 760ks to the tank, on highway driving full of passengers and luggage too, most economical car I ever did own, being the 2.4l.

my car has gone from using on average 11L/100kms to 13L/100kms in the last couple of months.
Even only did 10L/100kms for 500kms of all highway driving :x

i remember when i got my car serviced the guy said there was a part of my exhaust piping which looked vulnerable to causing a leak soon. An exhaust leak would most certainly result in a drop in fuel consumption wouldnt it?

I use my comp. and i believe the esimated kms works off how you drive it. If u fill it up after u have thrashed it, the computer believes u will do the same again for the fuel tank. So hence if u push the magna hard all the time the computer will comply. I usually get 450km a tanks, my missus uses it to get around as i have a work van. but when i travel down south or up north i usually get 650kn a tank, well that was before i had a k&N rampod put on, and now im planning on extractors and mufflers. I dont find the stock comp is always correct. If u put a small amount of fuel in, its doesnt sense it(one hint.....fill the tank and u will get a better reading).

Thats just my 2c, any1 want to disagree go for it.

OMG dude this was like posted in like 2003,

yeh only just noticed that, but still....how does the mitsu comp work then? it doesnt run off history? if that is so, why is my comp adjusting to an afta market pod? if it doesnt work on history then it should of picked up the pod str8 away. and yeh it was posted along time ago...im new to this forum and i did not check dates... im surprised u checked or replied...considering..
