View Full Version : Flat spot?

I noticed that my car has a flat spot in the rev range between 2800 - 3000 rpm. It's not that evident, but when I go up hills, it sure is. It revs fine up to the point, then it starts to drop even though I'm giving it moderate gas. Only way I can avoid this is, well, booting it, for a kickdown, or, waiting for next gear change.
I drive a 1991 TR Auto.
Otherwise, the car is mechnically sound, with 200,000 on the odometer.
Anyone know what the problem could be? Cheers.
Here's a crappy pic of my every day magna.

if its a 4 i think its because its fairly gutless, check air filter... if you have a pod id blame it, also i think the fpr's can cause similar effects

lol nice, see you have the chrome grill :). Dont let Bain or samurai see you say that :P.
Anyway about the flat spot, yes it's an auto thing, the only things you can do to make it less noticable are some breathing mods, or to chuck power mode on.

Why am I to worry about Bain or Samurai? Its a TR SE, it came with that chrome grille stock lol
BTW - I still got that flat spot. checked it out, can't find a problem. Must be cause its a ****ty auto.
Now to fix my stupid 350k's a tank fuel economy. Only temp and O2 sensors left to investigate.

Oh, I noticed that when I turn on my headlights or rear demistor, my idle likes to drop a bit, as if my car's alternator is stuggling to keep up.
I can turn on all the electrics and air conditioning and still drive it around just fine. I just find it a tad weird. Is this normal?

lol i was referring to you wanting my wing.
Anyway i think my O2 sensor is up sh!t creek at the moment, but i'm getting now around abouts 500-550 km a tank on regular unleaded, havn't tried optimax yet ($1.40 a litre cringe).

Yeh that's normal mate, when i'm idling if i crank my stereo to the point where the headlights would flash, my idle drops down to about 5-550 :P.

True, its just the way the good old Astron II was put together, having an auto tranny only amplifies the flat spot. My next mod will be a rising rate FPR which should effectively mask the problem, and possibly an ignition advance.
