Well after lotsa searching here is the proof.
The car is a 1992 Diamante in the US, has the 24 valve motor. Note the ausie verada look bumper??

Dude we know it fits, thats KB's next engine. i was gonna drop that in my car but didn't have the $$$ for ecu and other custom shit that it requires. Also in the states and i think japan you can only get in grandpa mobile auto

I was not aware these came out in the US D's, as this is a US model. I had heard of Jap ones.
Just thought was a very interesting pic to see one in a bay and running.
Perhaps the Jap and US mountings are different, perhaps not eitherway it is something I will still be trying someday when the $$ are a bit better.
As for ECU's etc I will be after a front cut so it will all be there, from mounts through to shafts and ecu.
And for the record, until now I was not aware KB was going to be giving this motor a go.

How do you know it's not an imported JDM model?
Besides anything is possible. It's an easier swap than others, just possibly not "undo the engine mounts rip it out and slip the other one right in"

Well for starters the fact it is LHD is a good give away and also the fact the guy lives in the states.
I have mailed him, he purchased the car like this, it is in fact a 5 speed man trans however was orig an auto. The front bar is of an aussie Verada.
Don't know why ppl are being so defensive about this post, unless it is the comprehension that there may be other ways to go as far as modding our cars went.
No one ever said anyting will "Just bolt in" but I am sure as hell going to find out. Plus if there is not some chalange then there is no fun anyway.
I was more curious because there are a lot of similarities in that bay to my KR Verada, like the position of the throttle cable and cruise control unit on the right hand side, the positioning of several features which would make me think that given one had the mounts from the doner car one may have more luck in the firstplace, thus is why I am trying to get info on the front cut.

The US D's did come out with the dohc 24v

In fact I think Australia was the only country NOT to have that motor..and we bloody make it! *screams*

He's sourced an aussie 5 speed manual, no US D is manual stock.

Sorry if I seemed "defensive" I was just confused that's all...I thought that motor being in the US D's was common knowledge, sorry mate.

Woooh, I thought the DOHC 6G72 was made in Australia and shipped to Japan to put in the GTO/3000GTs I am pretty sure the 3L DOHC are made in Australia.. but then again I might be wrong.... :D

makes you wonder that they made the engine here, but never put it in an aust built car? bit silly if you ask me. If only my 12V SOHC was a 24V DOHC

The US Diamantes are made in australia, and the US Diamantes have an optional dohc 24v 6G72...Put two and two together and I rest my case.

They're made BOTH in australia and japan, in here they're made for the US market and in japan made for europe etc

The proof is that the aussie ones arent JDM motors..you'll see on ebay and stuff that japanese JDM motors are much more sought after than the american ones...simply look at the price they go for.

I know they're made in australia, it's just not a thing that mitsu likes to confirm.

And the 2.5 is 6G73

nope. i know of a wrecker in adelaide that has a 2.5 quad cam dropped in it though, and it's currently off the road. they're having problems sourcing a water pump i've heard. I'll go visit it sometime during the week and take pictures. ;)

hey killbilly
i spoke to my dad again bout the dohc engine and the usa diamante
he said the australian built diamante only had the sohc engine and yes there was an option of the dohc engines these vehicles were made in japan and shipped to USA
and the engines made in aust are only sohc, no dohc engines are made in australia
if they were im sure they would be in the magnas

how hard are the MIVEC 6G72s to find? if they are easier to find than say a 6G74?

Would it be possible for some one with a 3.5 Magna to get a 3.0 MIVEC and transfer the heads and whatever alse is needed (like ECU) to their 3.5.

Then they can put their 3.5 heads on the 3.0 and sell that (due to the different cams on the 3.5, the result might be similar power figures to the 3.0 Tritons. less power but bit more torque, I think they where 130 somthing kW)

Someone had a Mivec engine for sale at some stage in the last 6 months. I'd like to find wither a 3.0 or 3.5 Mivec!

Killbilly
09-09-2003, 07:29 AM
It was a 3.0

I didnt know they made a mivec 3.5? Anyone like to confirm this or get pics or specs?

Also I doubt you'd be able to swap 3.0 MIVEC heads with the 3.5 because the 3.5 is bored out, I dont think it'd line up?

DOHC 24v MIVEC 6G72s are rare. They only came out in the Diamante 30M. If you can find one, buy it!

I think RPW still has their one for sale...you'd have to email Dave.

The 3.5 Mivec I thought was the Evo Pajero. That's one vehicle that's hard to find info out for. I'm starting to think it's a unicorn :)

I have read of people putting RB25 heads on RB30s with no problem, I think the extra 500cc doesn't make a difference as long as the design is the same, whitch I would think it would be, anyone know for sure?

Wow talk about thread mine, just FYI - It is both a DOHC and a "quad cam". The term Quad Cam comes from Toyota, which means the engine has 4 cams, 2 per bank of cylinders (in a v6).
