i replaced the regulator thats behind the cluster for the petrol n temp guages and i just wanted to ask if anyone knows if the light that tells ya the petrol is low is set off by the needle on the cluster, or if it gets the reading from the fuel tank?

cos with the new regulator its an 8v, not the 7v im suppose to have, so im worried its reading more than what i really have, since i was at like 611km since my last fill up and the petrol light wasnt on yet, and the needle was over the empty line, and i didnt wanna chance it.

the light gets the reading from the tank if u remove the sender unit ull notice a lil round cylinder this detects the petrol and thats why it sit low on the sender unit u can move them around if u feel that its coming on to early or late

ok if u remove the sender unit from the petrol tank you will notice right on the end of it the bit that sits the lowest theres a small round cylinder about 2cm maybe by 1cm?? ok this open the ground i think when it detects liquid eg petrol so when the petrol goes below the senser it opens the ground and turns the light on ur dash on
this is another reason why it fades in and out cos the petrol goes up and down as u drive along so yer...

any better lol ???

On a trip i got around 600 out of a tank and it still had a bit left in it - mind you i had picked it up from some guy and then drove it home to tassie all but the next day without really looking at it and definately didnt service it, in fact i should have done that this weekend but didnt coz i would rather go play golf than do that and i had to concentrate on getting the Patrol ready for sale too... almost there :doubt: Where do you buy the globes from and how hard are they to replace coz it really annoys me when it doesnt work liek mine... they are a 65 litre tank and i ahve put in at one stage 63 so im assuming it fairly certain the globe is buggered or somethign along the line is...

650km, managed to fit 76 litres in there. Kept the reciept for proof, but I didn't remove any frrom the car when it got towed away. And, no the light didn't come on...

For the simple reason, it didn't work!

there a 64l not 65 and some auto places have the globes but just go to the wreckers and get heaps also remember the petrol light is a bigger globe then the other warning lights
