View Full Version : Which TJ model to buy
I'm currently a V8 commodore driver but want to get out!!! I've been put to shame by new TJ's having nearly same power as my V8!!! I want to buy TJ Exec but not sure weather to get series 1 or series 2?? I like adavantages of series 2 with tip-tronic but have not heard good/bad things about. Have driven TJ series 1 sports with 5 tip-tronic but did not like feel. Seem to change very quick and not revving out. On other hand Series 1 are very cheap!! Can you guys help out.

Buy a manual!!
And glad to see you have seen the light about real cars and capabilities!!
If you can find a series 2 - get that - but i suggest trying to find a manual over the semi auto.

Alrite well first of all I'd agree with manual and say GET A MANUAL!
it really depends what luxuries you want and what mods you intend to do. If you're gonna modify the exhaust system then theres not much point in a sports as thats the only difference between it and an exec (plus a few other minor accessories. Id recommend a 2002 build manual tj (the 2002 builds share the same motor as the sports (with a different muffler), prior models have the different muffler and either different cams or ecu
Thanks for help, Due to the main reason that v8 is too damn expensive to run (ie insurance, petrol) I want to keep mods to a minium with TJ to save on costs. About all i want to do is put accessory TJ muffler, K&N panel filter and lower it. I think TJ Series 2 Exec will be my weapon of choice.
What suspension mods do you guys recommend for it? I've seen a few places do King Springs, Pedders and whiteline. I think i'm leaning toward the Kings..... I want to retain ride quality. I dont want the thing bouncing everywhere.

Nice choice. You'll be running same as a sports/vrx anyhow. I would suggest to go for a magnaflow or lukey muffler rather than the mitsu accessory one. The lukey one is 100% the same as the accessory one but cheaper. As for lowering ive got the whiteline suspension with king springs. When you've got 19" rims and the whiteline suspension (koni adjustable shocks) your ride gets pretty rough at times. It is worth it for the handling improvement though. I would suggest to go king springs on your car. They provide a 2" drop. Pedders has got a 40mm drop and 60mm drop. Oh btw... you can get away with the king springs or 40mm drop with your insurance company if you just "bend" the truth slightly.. they cant tell nor will investigate it.
One suggestion id make is a set of 17" minimum alloys
