View Full Version : TJ Stock speaker sizes
Just wondering if anyone out there knows what size speakers fit in the standed speaker holes?? I want to keep it looking as factory as possible with no cutting into things. Can speakers be put in the dash where looks to be covers in the corners???? Also is the factory wiring good enough to run off? I'd like to run off headunit.

Hi mate
Ok I've just redone all the speakers and headunit with an amp to be installed tomorrow in my tj so should be able to help you out. In the front door locations I fitted a set of 6.5" jaycar kevlar splits into the stock mounting but I did have to drill new holes into the plastic to screw the speaker in. As for the tweeters they fit nicely into the little holes on the dash. Mine isn't the neatest job in the world I basically glued the tweeters into the whole I cut out in the little plastic round things but it does the job. As for the rear speakers they are stock 6x9's. I replaced the stock ones with a set of kenwood 6x9's and they fitted easy enough. The only thing is the magnet is much bigger so seems to catch on the boot wires when opening and closing. the grills also sit a bit higher than the stock ones as well but you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking. I'm currently using the stock wiring into my headunit and it seems to be fine but I'm going to try to bug the guy installing my amp tomorrow to maybe put some new wires to my speakers for peace of mind
thanks for that info, just another quick question you said you had to drill into the plastic to mount the speaker into the door. Does it still fit under the factory speaker grill?? Is it possible to see photos of your set up? I'm curious as to how it looks and works.

hi mate
yep I'm still using all the stock speaker grills the only noticable difference is the two tweeters I have on my dash now, the 6x9's may sit a little higher then before because the kenwoods are bigger than stock but its not noticable. If you really want I can take pics but it looks like a stock setup :)
I don't know if your intrested or not but you can get stock speaker grill covers from mits. They are a fabric style cover, I think their fitted in veradas or something, only cost around $30ea.

is that for the tweeters? they don't actually look to bad because they have black grills. Dad has a verada and they tweeter must be below dash level as it is only the fabric grill that buldges above where my actual speakers is above level. No idea what is better for sq though
yeah is for tweeters in dash, spoke to mate at mits who said the fabric speaker grill in dash is for magnas without speaker? don't know why this is. There is a plastic speaker grill avaliable for the veradas with the tweeter built in to it.
Will let you know how it turns out when i install it
