ok, so i got my car serviced at mistu the other day, they mentioned that the battery went dead during it and it wouldnt start, so they had it on charge and didnt really mention much of it. Tonight as i go to pick up my noodles, my car doesnt start.. after having a look around pertending to know what im looking for, i figured it much be the battery, the engine is in perfect nic. so i ask the next passer by for a jump start. That got me home.
Now, ive tried starting my car again, and it does. However, my headlights are dimmer and when i accelerate they brighten up a bit, my mechanically minded friend said it'd prob be the altinator.
Has anyone else had a *** altinator, could it be somethign else? are there any checks i could do? how much you think it'll fix, adn will i be able to get to work tommorow?

Take it to a auto elec and he will tell you in about 2 min what is wrong.
Sounds like your Alt.

Check to see ur battery terminals are nice n tight and uncorroded
Is your battery actually going flat. Or it just doesnt have enough juice to kick the starter motor over?

ok, so i went down to my local auto leccy today.
The thing he used was reading that there was power going to the battery throguh the altinator, but it was jumpign aroudn a bit, where as its ment to be just steady. So he said it's in a "pplaying up stage" atm and not completly rooted, but good idea to get it replaced anyway... i know know if he's jsut trying to con me for some dosh. He put a little tube thing in the battery, and the bubble went up to liek half way, and apparently that ment the battery was pretty flat as is.
I think im going to try find someone with a car battery charger and leave it going over night, adn see what happens fromt there...
you shouldnt need to put your battery on a charger over nite......thats what your alternator is for.
Batteries do however get old and stop holding charge. so it may be time for a new one.
if you can get hold of a charger, give it a go (no harm in doing so)
but what ya auto lecky said can be true, it depends on how they fail, sometimes they can just stop and thats when you get no charge goin back to the batt, sometimes they can over charge (pump out to higher Volt) and fry minor things like your computer and sterio etc
but then they can do as yours is, some of the time it works as it should, but other times it's in it's "dead" stage and not giving off the charge.
