Hi all,

Pete from Brisbane here.

I've just purchased a 1995 TS Magna Exec Sedan with the 6G72 SOHC V6. A nice tidy example is stock standard spec. I pick it up on Tuesday.

It's essentially a second car for the family. It will be mainly used by me (poor old Dad getting stuck with the old car) :D

I plan to do a couple of minor things straight away to the car to set it up for what I want to use it for - transporting me and my mountain bike to and from riding locations on weekend and general cruising around town.

For this, I need to get a tow bar fitted so I can chuck a bike rack on the back. Does anyone have any experience with tow bars on TR/TS Magnas? Is there any particular things that need to be considered that I'm not aware of yet?

Also, the stock standard crappy stereo will have to go into the bin very quickly. I've searched the forums here for info on console removal etc but could only find info for the 3rd gen Magna. Does anyone know of any info for the TR/TS models.

I'm also looking forward to getting back to tinkering with my car again after many years of having cars under factory warranty. I'll be out tomorrow to buy a Gregory's manual and some hand cleaner.

Thanks in advance.

to undo the centre console there is two screws on the back panel of the centre "glovebox" thing, undo those and pull the whole thing toward the rear of the car, then you will see two screws near the headunit i think from memory which you undo then take the border thing off and it just pulls out!

Expanding on that:
Basically the whole center unit (ie., the bit with the gears, bucket, etc) has to be undone to be able to undo the center console - just work from the back to the front, should be fairly easy to figure out.
There's two screws at the very back, then you need to pull out the smoker's bin and undo the two screws in there (easiest to leave them in the holes), you can then kinda lift it out of the way if you position it correctly, without having to undo anything to do with the gearstick (don't know if you're auto or manual, I haven't had ay experience with the autos).
But as Pharagon said, two screws in the center console, and you can take the surround off; I've found it easiest to disconnect the couple of quick-connect electrics, so you can completely get the surround out of the way.

Once you've done it a few times, you'll be able to pull apart the whole thing in like 30secs flat (I must have pulled mine apart at least 10 times during the course of my stereo decisions and changeover).

Oh, and a possible tip for installing a system, you can modify the existing mounting bracket so that it screws directly to your new system, saves a hell of a lot of hassle trying to get the new system installed. And it makes it fairly thief-proof, as they basically have to pull apart the entire console as well. Though hopefully that would never be an issue...
