i am leaking coolant from somewhere at the back on the engine i have no i dea everytime i go 2 look i cant find anything sometimes i dont even think there is a leak as last time i filled my radiator was on the 28/7/05 and i just checked it 2 day and it was missing alot of coolant most of the time i dont notice it until the temp gauge hits red and im like crap but it might only stay up there for like 2 seconds then drop back down and if i put it in N it drops down better aswell.

also i had a bad oil leak problem i had to get the alternator and sump, crank and tappet seal replaced and it still leaks theres no water in oil and im sure it isnt a head gasket.

i have no idea what this problem is can some 1 give me a hand the car has done 260,000km theres nofing else wrong with the car its really good i wanna keep it

i was thinking maybe getting a a reconed engine from higginbottom or somthin.

its the 2.6LT 4 Cylinder EFI can sum1 give me a helping hand

Might be a leaking water pump. The internal seals go on them, and you have to pull it out and replace it. I think the pumps themselves should be fairly cheap, just might be a bit of a job to replace it - dunno, not sure what the setup's like on the 4cyl, and don't have my service manual handy. Might be a fair few belt removals involved, which are always fun. Not.

Mine (V6) has been weeping since I got it, but it's only a very small amount, so it's not really worth the effort, as long as I check my coolant situation every now and then (might add a few hundred mils every couple of months, that's about the extent of it).

yer well mines up to the point where im adding water every week and its more then a couple of mills i think 2day it took about a 1 LT maybe a tad more.

what you think about a reconed engine and get it dropped in its place nothing fancy done to it at all just a str8 replacment what am i looking at for 1 of these engines i cant believe they would cost that much i heard they aint the PERFORMANCE engine every 1 wants.

would i be better of it is up to 260,000km and i noticed radiator repair stickers on the radiator when i looked at the car i think the person who traded it in might have had good reason.

your thoughts please people.

ahh the wonderful astron engine
they can leak coolant from everwhere just like most engines with alloy parts that don't get maintained properly with anticorosive/antifreeze.
The first step in testing any engine for coolant leaks is to get the full cooling system up to it's rated max pressure and look for the leaks.
This is usually done with a pressure tester/pump which has a pressure gauge so you can see the pressure loss from the hidden leaks.

Places to look for leaks in an astron!
like any car the radiator and radiator cap have to be in good condition as do the hoses,
if you have coolant on the floor of the cab then the heater core is leaking
now for the engine
the water pump can leak from the body gasket, the shaft seal and also the "O" ring in the block port (New genuine waterpumps come complete, non-gen is half the pump and more labour)

there are 5 welch plugs in the block on the firewall side, 1 in the rear of the block, 1 in the rear of the head and 3 in the exhaust side of the block, these rust through and leak coolant

the head, timing case and inlet manifolds can corrode around the coolant galleries.
For the head this can appear as blown head gasket symptoms, or coolant in the oil, or coolant from the side of the engine.
For the timing case it usually appears as a leak from behind the alternator but can also leak coolant into the oil.
The manifold can be leaking either into the inlet ports or down the side of the block.

also, if your block doesn't have the ribbing like early TM's did... the block cracks between two welch plugs, thus loosing almost all coolant:rant:

it wont be this, but i thought i'd elighten everyone about how good the astron is
