Hi
My 91 verada is not changing up or down gears does this mean that it has switched itself into failsafe mode? How is this fixed or what could have caused this problem? I have tried reseting the ECU but it has not worked but has made the car run a bit smoother. Is there anything else that I can try before sending it to Mitsubishi and paying big $$ that I don't have??
Thank you
Tanya

if your car only has reverse and 3rd gear then the most likely cause is a failed transmission ECU (probably the usual leaky capacitor fault)
or a bad/dirty contact at the wiring plugs for the transmission (under the bonnet)
the transmission ECU is located on the floor under the centre of the dash

Thank you for your replies
I got my car down to the Auto place and my ECU has had it a few of the capacitors have gone on it and so that is off getting a quote on how much it is to fix or replace, and then he tells me my transmission needs a good overhall, I have metal in my oil so he has hit me up for $1000 to fix that my question is: Is that a good price???
Thanks
Tanya
