go either 2" or 2.25, 2.5" is overkill
i have 2" and found there was a big difference from stock but depending on where u want to go on mods if your doing say carby mod, cam etc go 2.25 but if your just doing exhaust, intake go 2"

im using a 2 1/4" exhaust, sounds beefy and likes to rev. but i have lost a slight amount of bottom end torque. these engines are designed to produce lots of low and mid range torque so putting on anything over 2.25 is a waste of money. probably 2inch is the best overall for fuel economy/torque.

do u mean a 4" muffler or 4" inlet cos theres a different

im gonna go 2" and a lukey highflow muffler with my Hi Techs...
the only problem is i can only get 2" press bent in tassie, not mandrel bent..
man id love to get mandrel bent its just so much smoother and sonds more seriouse not like a farty press bent

i hope it flows a bit better and getmore economy, i know it will go better than what ive got!

My manifold is cracked, cat probably siezed 15 years ago, a few holes in the exhast pipe, a flexi pipe that looks like a flexi mesh with rocks falling out, and s bends and curves and press bends blo0dy everywhere! no wonder it backfires on LPG.... my compression is probabley NON EXITSTENENT!!
i might even get it running like it did 20 years ago!!

My 1st Gen is the same but only burgundy lower half and the small black trim along the bottom edge...

lol yeah i ment a 4" pipe from tha engine then a 4 or 5" muffler u no the sort the type jap tunas have apparently the system on it now duznt have a cat dew to sum dodgy mechanic so thats y from engine

well if all you want is noise coming from your car then thats a good expensive way to go.
but you will have no power at all, because the exhaust gas travelling out will be going really slowly. the exhaust gas needs to be travelling at a certain speed to "scavenge" or suck out the exhaust gas behind it. in other words u need the exhaust small enough to keep the exhaust gases moving fast to make the engine breath right, but large enough to keep it flowing easily at higher revs. if you just want noise, then get one of those ricey exhaust tips or somthing.

there is an article on here somewhere.

oh also there is nothing wrong with a press bent exhaust, they are the most common type and they do the job well for most applications. you only really need mandrel bent for cars with turbo's or race application where every half a killowatt counts. for our cars id say press bent gives you better bang for your buck. better off putting the savings into a bonnetscoop/ram air intake or getting your intake manifold ported and polished or somthing.

lol noise all the wai fellas gotta love that massivly loud exhaust sound, as for power i dont really mind as of yet just because i dont really race, or that sorta thing, only on l pl8s (gets annoyed at driving assessor for failing because of not putting wipers on... ) (...twice  ) maybe put a big turbo in l8r or sumthin afta gettin more experience "driving"

Learn about exhausts before talking again.

Your saving for a 4" Tip / Muffler, not the inlet. A V8 would have a tough time trying to get enough exhaust pressure through a 4" system, let alone yours. Your car literally, would have trouble moving from a stop position.

So yes, you are going for noise, but that occurs via the tip/muffler. So if someone has tricked you into buying a 4" exhaust system, it's your own fault.

hes right you will have major power loss and the car will strugle to even move if you want loud just going a overly sized pipe isnt going to do much
get extractors hiflo cat with say a 2.5 cat back with no res and a gay cannon if u want loud

u can get plenty of noise with 2.25" piping and a whopping huge muffler and no res.
take my car for example :D
tho i did ask for a freakin reso, stupid bloody carline.

yeah ive had probs with the exhaust before stock thou got completely clogged driving flatfoot get the car to a top speed of bout 20-25kph trying to avoid this again. you would think that with with the 4" exhaust it wouldnt loose any power due to tha fact that the engine is still breathing thru its original intake setup, meh, your the experts

jacked up my car with a 2inch zaust before i modded and changed everything went off the clock when i floored it, with no exhaust it couldnt get past 130, if u go 4" then its just stupid your car will not even have the power wanted foir daily driving, also it will be to loud and defected, if ure after noise go 2.25" and take out the res, and get a high flow cat, and cannon, that will give u the noise u want and keep the power

and brendan, why would u laugh at that, ure exhaust is overkill as all u have is a cam and a carby, u only need 2" for best preformance, expecaily considering how small ure cam is
