Well I'm currently in one hell of a foul mood. As you may of known I've been waiting a week to get my new coustic amp installed. I was booked in at 9am so made sure I got there early at around 8.50am after not sleeping the whole night. I was then told that they had double booked and I'd have to return at 10.30am which kinda peeved me but I didn't want to get them in a bad mood so accepted it and went for a walk around the shops for an hour (bloody boring when you don't need to buy anything)

So I headed back at 10.30am and they took my car into the garage. I asked if I could watch to help pass time and also learn a little but was told I wasn't allowed because of insurance reasons (which is fair enough but dissapointing) So I stood around for over an hour when finally they reverse my car out. I ask a few questions and luckily one of them was so all 4 speakers are connected to the amp? only to find out ooh no only the 6x9's are the front splits are coming off the headunit. I'm a bit dismayed at this so they begrudgingly take the car back in to wire up the fronts. So I go for another quick walk and come back and stand around some more when my car gets reversed out again. He says it's all fixed up now so I accept that and drive off.

This is where it gets worse
First thing I noticed was my left and right speakers were coming out backwards and I have a high pitched electrical sound coming from all of my speakers. I did a quick uturn and headed back and just caught him as he was leaving. He switched the speakers at the amp (easy enough) and said the whine was normal, knowing no better I accepted that and drove off.

On the 15minute trip home I then found these problems, my speakers were still wrong (back and front were opposite) the whine was terrible,
my air conditioning vent control thing now doesn't smoothly open and close, there's dirt all over my back seat and a big scratch in the front plastic console.

I ended up turning off all sound as I got that pissed off. When I got home I pulled it all apart. I fixed up the backwards speakers at the amp but couldn't solve the whining noise. I thought I'd check the grounding wire which is under my back seat. I remove the bottom section of the seat only to find the back section has been bolted in only using one bolt instead of 3 with my other 2 bolts now missing!

On closer inspection I also found a few spots where the wiring had been run through the car and the carpet hadn't been sealed again.

My father is now going to take it back on monday to at least get the screws that are missing back. Is there anything else I can do about the other problems mainly the whining? the other stuff I can clean up except for the bloody scratch and air con vent which I have no idea whats wrong with it.

anyway just wanted to get it off my chest, I'm just very upset that I've payed for a professional service and received this and creating more work for me and my father. If you have any suggestions or comments please let me know because atm I'm not even going near my car as it's causing so many hassles

thanks for your time

Don't know where you got this done but the whining i take it is electrial cross over, tell the idiot who did this you want it done properly, you have paid for it and if he won't fix it you will see your lawyer, it works wonders when you mention lawyer. I would be ready to smash a head but I'd try the first idea

 Department of fair trading is always your solution KB.

sorry, slayer, i think that with your 'whinging' sound, i reckon they didnt take the time to run the power cables on one side of the car, and the sound cables on the other. so i think there is interfirence between the 2 cables.

it stinks that you paid for a 'professional' service, and got something far from it. i myself know how annoying, figitity and frustrating it can be running power cables from one side, and the speaker cables on the other, and trying best to make sure they dont cross, but afterall, they are getting paid to do just that. get figity and frustrated in wiring up a system. if they didnt wanna do that all day, then i suggest they find a new job.

take it back, and yes, use what KB said, they are free and normall you can get some good results from them. :)

Ben.

LoL yes it is ;) Simply coz of the reasons I stated..

Why pay a lawyer to do something that you can get done for free? :p

the whining noise is co the rca leads are on the same side as the power and earth wire....
and the air con vent is mayb e because when they pulled the dash out they prob didnt put the wire hook back in properly which opens the vents.. or its crossed onto something else.... the wire that goes from the back of the switch and operates the vent hinge thingy

ok guys I'll get some more photos of the job up so you guys can tell me if anything else is bodgy.

I'm a big believer in diy but when I really don't have a clue on something my car and an expensive amp/speakers isn't something I want to risk.

The cabling etc looks quite simple but it was getting the headunit out of a magna which I find daunting, I'd tried it before and nearly snapped a few of the overpriced clips.

I really don't know how harsh to go back at the installer now like he said the whine was normal with an amp which kind of surprised me also the missing screws (that I know) is a worry not to mention the ones I don't know about which have probably dissapeared.

I'm just really frustrated now this was ment to be a happy experience that i have been looking forward to and now my car and sound system is screwed, I also think the stock wiring was kept from the front speakers to the crossovers as well

I'll go get some photos now, really wish I was confident pulling the front out so I could check the headunit connections, also is there a simple way of running new wiring from the front doors to my crossovers because from what I've seen there is no way of getting it through the cable loom tube that joins the door to the car

thanks again for your input guys

I asked if I could watch to help pass time and also learn a little but was told I wasn't allowed because of insurance reasons

Why the hell not? when i had my first HU and speakers installed I stayed around and even gave the only guy working there, a hand. as it turned out, if i hadnt have been there, important shit like securing the rear 6x9's properly, and making sure the A/C controls worked, would'nt have been done.

What possible insurance reasons? tell them that it is YOUR car, YOUR Stereo/amp/etc. therefore you have a right to see what goes on. It's pretty invasive (in terms of components needed to be taken out, unscrewed, etc), the kind of work that needs to be done to install a head unit/amp, so you should be there to make sure there and then that everything is reinstalled correctly.

definately threaten them with some sort of official action, get their asses into gear. :)

Ahhhh the advantages of having a stereo professionaly fitted..........
I think i know why they didnt want you to know what they were doing, its because they have no clues.
I like fitting stuff myself, as i know im going to do it well, not some cheapass dodgy job.
I'd definately be telling to fix it all, including that scratch they made.

problem is there is no such thing as a 'professional installer'

Ive never seen a card or degree or anything of a kind that would justify someone being a pro installer.

Everyone should know by now its just someone whose installed a stereo once before. Or works for the shop/is a friend of someone at the shop.

The instructions that come with your stereo are so detailed these days that even the below average jo can install speakers/stereo/amp and subs.

Hard lesson learnt Slayer..

mmm ulucky you!!

My friends sister got her stereo installed at alberts here in perth and they did such a dodgy job!

but then when i went they fixed my centre console (was falling out of place cause some moron who had the car prevoiusouly had a handsfree kit and did a bodgy job) and anyway they did everything in mine well!

Took them longer than what they said and i was late for work and fired.. (haha not really)

So there mustave been a guy working there that Didnt know how to install a hu properly....

But that is so so stupid for that to happen!!

Youd expect more from the status Profesionals or anything you pay money for (cept if its a mate then If he screws up.. your screwed:P)

Go back and kick there ass hey cause you didnt pay money for a dodgy job!! you payed for the complete job! and make sure you talk to the manager and dont chicken off or loose your head!!! just be precise to the point.... the Dept of Fair trading sounds good...

I know that everytime ive gone to complain ive lost my nerve and screamed and sworn at them and never gone back... which is my loss not theirs unfortunatly!

thanks for the input guys

we rang up today and apparently the guy who installed mine isn't the main guy. The main installer will ring us tomorrow and hopefully organise something. Fingers crossed this guy has more of a clue and can fix everything up so I can be done with it. The thing is they also mentioned they shouldn't of been double booked so the installer was lied to me about that in the morning as well!

actually the guys that installed my stereo had this CAMs (Car Audio Masters) accreditation. if something goes wrong with the install for the lifetime of the install i can take it to any car audio dealer in aus who has CAMs accreditation and get it fixed for free.

too bad bout the install, my stereo install was 1 of the 3 greatest days i've had with the car, the others being getting my licence and the exhaust install hehehe
