View Full Version : Too much bass

I am running 2 subs off one amp, and four fusion speakers, 3 ways in back and 2ways up front off the JVC deck. My subs sound fantastic when I get out and open the boot, but up front I can't hear them for the distorted hollow bass comming from the speakers running off the deck. Any Ideas on what the problem could be, and/or how to overcome the problem??

have u tuned ur amp yet? what sort of power can your speakers/amp handle? your amp may not be powerful enough.
speaking of tuning amp..... still need to do mine yet, lol

if your speakers are still connected to your HU, then perhaps go into your HU settings, and adjust the Front/Rear and Bass settings, also the L and R channels.
i know it sounds simple, but sometimes its the simple things that go all wrong
i know, cos i rebuilt my system for a SPL contest, and forgot to do those little things. so while im there trying to compete agains the other, in this case, GIRL, i was sitting there "tuning" my system
its pretty funny!. haha.

Thanks!
I have now cheaked my HU settings and all seems fine there, I have had a play and altered them a bit to try and get some decent sound, but to no avail....
Will getting another amp to run the speakers off be a good idea to help solve the problem? and to also get more volume???

so your HU is powering the front speakers? how powerful is your HU? sounds like it may not be powerful enough..... is it sound quality that is lacking or just volume? you may need to get another amp for the front speakers, or another amp for one sub. did you wire it up urself?

If you get a amp for your speakers there will be low and high pass filters you can set to cut out certain freqeuencies. Good head unit also alow you to cut out cetain freq to your front and rear speakers

HU is a JVC 4x45w. Both quality and volume seem to be a problem......
The Unit was "professionally" Installed by guys that I have complete faith in, as I have never had a problem with them before, nothing is too much trouble for them. As it is I have taken it back to them twice as Sound to the speakers seems to cut out of its own accord on a nuber of occasions. Apparently the speaker wires from the back left speaker keep working their way loose and towards the metal.... they think! They said that if it does it again they will send the HU off to JVC, most likely a dry join. Not sure if this could possibly be part of the sound quality problem too..... but shouldn't be..... Maybe I shoiuld ditch the HU too...hmmm..... i feel a new clarion or alpine unit comming along with a new amp for the speakers.....
Any other suggestions???

[quote:b945ae56b8]distorted hollow bass comming from the speakers running off the deck[/quote:b945ae56b8]
The deck if you are lucky would be pushing 4/10w, peak power figures are crap and don't go off them. This would mean your front speakers are getting powered by a amp(your HU) that just doesn't have the head room to drive them. You will end up with distortion as the HU is running out of head room. Also deaden the doors behind the speakers if you want the speakers to sound good, Focal make great deadener but it's also expensive at about $60 a door. Buy a Amp to run the front speakers, and the bigger the better, if your speakers will handle 100w buy a amp that is about 110-130 w/channel. This will open the dynamics up and give so much head room in the amp it will hardly be working. It will improve your sound no end.
As for HU, well that is a question for debate, I havn't found a HU from Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Clarion, JVC yet that will match a Eclipse for sound quality, yep they may have all the gadgets in the world and MP3 but heck they can't match music clarity.

Have your front/rear speakers and subs all been wired in the same polarity? Have you tuned your amp since it was installed?
Yep, as above...definately get an amp to run your speakers as well as your subs. It will make a huge difference!

Dude dont dispare... your headunit makes 20-25WRMS per channel. I use WRMS as that is the most accurate power figure. If your speakers are distorting its because they dont have enough power. Your headunit comes with bass/treble so turn the bass down on your reference speakers. If this still doesnt work amp your fronts, forget about the rear fill, you only need rear fill when you always have people in the back or you are going for surround. Let the rear run happily off the deck and amp the fronts :D

You and your obsession with Focal  ... And there are better "under $1000" head units than those of Eclipse :)
As for sound quality, there is no point arguing, because what you hear isn't what I hear.

i will challenge that... and blow you away, you obviously dont know anything about headunits, my old panasonic 40Wx 4 have 20WRMS, Pioneer 50Wx 4 give out 22. somethingWRMS from memory, Clarion 52Wx 4 give out 18WRMSx 4 same as the sony's, but you must not have heard of the San Franciso CD72 from Blaupunkt it delivers 33WRMSx 4 which is more than 25WRMS, go to www.blaupunkt.com and have a look.

Well not for sound quality there ain't but then again it depends what you call sound quality, my home system is Linn and Focal so my car i wanted as close to that as possible, only one head unit sounds sweeter in a car and it Nachamichi but at $3,000 I'll go the $1,200 instead.
As for Focal I just mentioned there deadner as it's easy to fit, but while where on it I like reference sound, I like to hear a chick breath while singing, Focal make the best speakers for that type of sound. Each to his own.
And as for a shoot off in stereos, is this just Db level or sound quality

Thnaks again for all the more replys!
Gonna get another amp I think on saturday, might get something bigger and better to run the subs and use the two channel fusion amp to run the fronts, and I'll look into sound deadening.
Thanks again

cdt are actually better then focal utopia's.....for SQ
comes with a much steeper crossover slope on the crossovers too.
