Was your alarm going when you disconnected it?
It shouldn't go off if it wasn't. If it was you'll need to find the fuse that the car alarm runs off and disable it.

I can disconnect it with out setting it off but when i put it back together i put the positive on, then the alarm, then the negitive and when i do this it sets it off. I then go and turn it off as i would normally if i set it off but is hould be able to reconnet the battery without this happening.

Why are you turning the alarm on before you reconnect the negative?
Of course that's gonna set your alarm off because you are arming it and then it's detecting that your bonnet is up and will go off (or maybe even one of your doors are opened).

Ok so you connect the positive plug on the battery, then you activate the alarm, then you connect the negative plug onto the battery?
I dont think i quite get what ur saying, i didn't think you could turn the alarm on without having both battery terminals in place, unless it's got it's own power source?

ok i connect the positive terminal. Then i connect the power lead for the alarm onto the positive terminal. So i now have the positive lead and the alarm lead connected.

When the negitive lead is connected to the negitive terminal i presume it creates a curcuit and sets off the alarm.

So what im asking is how do i avoid setting off the alarm when the negitive lead is connected.

and when your reconnecting your battery, you should really be putting the neg terminal back on first, then the positive

i remeber the first time i d/c my battery, i forgot about my alarm and it went off right next to my ear.. a change of undies and a quick post on here, i had it sorted :P

did your alarm come with a key, for the little box that sits in the engine bay?? thats the only suggestion i have.

i like stories.

Use the alarm key to disable the alarm when reconnecting.

Otherwise yeah, all the alarms I've dealt with will go off when reconnected
and you've just gotta wear earplugs and be quick with the 'off' on the remote.

Nooo... always connect POSITIVE FIRST (on a negative ground vehicle) before Negative.

Why? easy

When you reconnect the positive and use a big whacking spanner... spanner
has a good chance of touching some nearby earthed part of the car.

If the Gnd/-ve isn't connected = nothing happens.

If your -ve is already hooked up before +ve... = BIG SPARKS.

(yeah yeah yeah, "it'll never happen to you"... )
