On my magna Tr (92)

After driving for a while I pick up a smoke/kinda burning smell comes from the engine, also can smell it whilst driving (Not strong, but a tiny smell).

Open up the bonnet and can smell is strongly through the intake(Where the fans are).

Anyone know what this could be ? (I've had a look for leaks and dosent seem I have any)

Also if the engine did catch on fire Does full Comp insurance cover this?

(Thanks in advance, If it dosent make sense ask the question ill try reply in english)

cheers

coulld be valve stem seals, if they are shagged then if you stop at the lights for a while then take off, a plume of oil smoke is produced, might be your problem.

I get this sometimes, and my valve seals need doing also (will be done next week :D).
Also could be the car running lean/rich (Cant remember which one).

How much were these, I was told they are pritty cheap each one, just the labour is a killer on the price...

On my way to work tonight in the TR and i stop to fill up at the Service Station ($1.22 Unleaded) I hardly ever use unleaded always Premium!!!

I Start the engine, I see smoke pooring out of the exhaust, oil/water levels are fine, let it run for 5mins+ still smoking.

Thought I would put my RACV membership to work, so waited 30mins for them, explained what happened, he suggested it was the Valves or throttle body, Im still a bit concerned it was the petrol station(Private one - If I find out after taking it to the mechanics tommorow it is they are in big trouble).

Hopefully the mechanic can give me some answers on what the problem is...

I've just bought a 95 TS V6. It has an oil smell when it gets hot. I've noticed a little bit of oil on the heat shield under the spark plugs on the front bank of 3 cylinders. I bought some degreaser and cleaned it all up. As it was then clean, I could check for any leaks more easily. What I ended up finding was that there was some oil weeping from the oil filler cap on top of the engine. The oil then works is way down until it is on either the cyclinder head or the exhaust manifold. So, I'm off to get a new oil filler cap.

With the blue smoke, yours does sound like valve stem seals.

Comp insurance should cover a fire should that eventuate. Let's hope it doesn't.

Cheers,

Pete

on the note of insurance, problably wouldnt be a bad idea to ring your insurer just to double check..

I dont know if it works on the V6 (mine doesnt leak) but on the old Astron, if you do the oil filler cap all the way up and then turn it back 1/4 of a turn it stops leaking out the filler cap. Weird, but it works well on my 1st gens - no more leaks :bowrofl:
